TTax Review
on March 31, 2015

Wish Turbo Tax would help complete the worksheet on figuring qualified Loan Limit and Deductible Home Mortgage Interest for current year, instead of saying -- you'll have to pull up the worksheet from IRS pubs and complete yourself. In light of all the complicated calculations and logic TTax uses to complete other tax forms, this one seems pretty straight forward. Why wont TTax complete the worksheet using interview format??? frustrating! Completing this one worksheet manually takes me as long as completing all my other deductions on TTax.
What's great about it: importing bank forms from financial institutions
What's not so great: IRS Pub 936
Pros: I bought or sold investments

When a covered call option expires worthless for me, the cost column should not be left blank by the download. That column should populate as "$0.00". On the review status, this the "blank" entry red-flags. The sell price populates fine ( again, a covered call ). The TurboTax company needs to talk with the stock brokerage firms and make sure that the situation is "$0.00", not "blank".
What's great about it: Install, run, print-out fine; no problems
What's not so great: Still one problem with hand-shake between stock brokerage & TurboTax
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Still easy to use

I've used Turbo Tax for several years. It took about 1 to 2 hours to get through and file. I like how I don't have to enter a lot of info because it grabs it from last year's file and my brokerage info is downloaded from the partner sights. I plan on using TT again next year.
What's great about it: Getting through the process was fast
What's not so great: Need a way to enter a custom entry for goods donation when item isn't listed

This program gets better and better each year. I have been using TT for over 12 years now, and it ran better than ever this year...no "glitches" whatsoever. My old data from the previous year imported beautifully which saved me time and research.
What's great about it: sold rental, paid no taxes...done and done...easy to follow
What's not so great: can't really think of any
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Room for improvement

Entered info on a car I recently sold in early 2015, and form locked me in entering the sale in 2014. Had difficulty maneuvering out of that menu.
What's great about it: Good transfer of info from last year
What's not so great: Needs hot buttons to delete mistaken info

My 2014 tax return was the most complicated ever that I had to deal with. Without Turbo Tax it would have been impossible. I am a user since 1991, and Turbo Tax will be my BFF!!!
What's great about it: Turbo Tax forever...everything will be resolved one way or another.
What's not so great: None.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Okay!
What's great about it: I like having the control over my taxes and it costs me less to file.
What's not so great: No quick answers and it was hard for me to make changes. I had to do an amendment.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

What the heck is estimated tax?
on April 1, 2015
Posted by: vivaJorge888
have been using turbo tax for over ten years. This is the first time I didn't get a tax return. Never knew about estimated taxes or penalty for underpayment. A good year for income = sticker shock on taxes. Multiple year comparisons very helpful in seeing the changes over time.
First felt sorry for myself, but then got a grip. 2014 was a good year. No way around it.
What's great about it: I earned so much last year that now I have to pay taxes.
What's not so great: I earned so much last year that now I have to pay taxes.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
