Great Experience with Minor Flaws

I used TurboTax to file a final return for my deceased mother-in-law. Unfortunately, she received 1099's that included income for all of 2014 rather than being split between personal and estate income. Thus, I had to account for the portion of reported estate income. In this situation the IRS instructs that an entry should be made on Schedule B below all the other payees that is deducted from the total. I saw a suggestion (I believe at the TurboTax site) to make such an entry by creating a dummy 1099 with negative values. I tried that in the EasyStep section, but TurbotTax would not let me enter negative numbers. However, I discovered that by switching to the Forms view I was able to make manual entries in the Schedule B Smart Worksheets using negative numbers. The resulting updated INT and DIV totals were correctly reflected throughout the other forms. Still, there was one remaining problem with the TurboTax check for qualified dividends. Qualified dividends must be equal to or less than ordinary dividends. The negative values entered for my adjustments did not work well with the TurboTax check because it apparently does not test absolute values. So TurboTax flagged an error all the way through the entire filing process that I just had to ignore.
What's great about it: Excellent step-by-step guidance
What's not so great: Problem with negative numbers
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

All in all, three of the four representatives were very helpful in guiding me through the download of Premier.
TurboTax should include the the Schedule D in the Deluxe edition.
Not everyone who own stock is a business owner.
What's great about it: Easy, once everything was made available.
What's not so great: Difficult time upgrading to the free premier edition and State.

Had to go thru (free this year) upgrade to Premium to process investment cap gains detail. Process to get to upgrade was not crisp Trouble with my Advantage password caused many resets without success. Help desk representative was very patient and finally got the problem solved. Next year please be more obvious with program changes in notification materials so we can purchase thr appropriate version. Thanks!
What's great about it: Options for working, navigation & prompting
What's not so great: Separation of investment phase from Delux with no advance warning.

I used the download option for investments for the first time this year. Saved me a lot of transcription time. In charitable contributions your instructions said to use "various" if we gave to the same organization several times. When I ran the error check I was told I can't use "various". As usual Turbo Tax transferred all my base data from previous years saving me all the effort of inputting the information. The questions helped me make sure I have covered all the areas for both the taxable amounts and my credits.
What's great about it: Saves time, time, time.
What's not so great: One inconsistancy.

What's great about it: Excellent expert help was available.
What's not so great: None
Pros: I bought or sold investments
