Solid Product

As I'm not a tax pro I can't comment on it's effectiveness, etc. It seems to get the job done at a reasonable price.
User interface/experience could use a little work. Some small things - like saving the file when needed automatically (rather than asking). The walk through is confusing since it gives you the option to selectively complete various subsections - perhaps this should be moved into an "intermediate mode". Something that I've noticed in more than one version - if you go back to a step/section later you might see a different set of prompts and may follow a different path - it's a bit confusing. The largest UX deficit is with the state return - it feels like a different product - clearly not as polished, etc. Give's the impression that perhaps it wasn't given the same attention?
What's great about it: Does it job
What's not so great: Could use some UX improvement - for state in particular

Finally Finished

Overall great, but I did have to "buy-up" this year, and that didn't make me happy. I understand I can apply for a refund this year, but next year I'll have to pay more.
What's great about it: Step by step review most valuable.
What's not so great: Unnecessary information gets tedious.

SUGGESTED CORRECTIONS TO TURBOTAX

THE PROGRAM WOULDN'T LET ME SIMPLY FILL IN THE FMV OF THE DONATED SECURITIES TO FIDELITY CHARITABLE AS SENT BY FIDELITY TO THE IRS ON FORM 8283 AND ASKED FOR A LOT OF IRRELEVANT INFORMATION. I HAD TO ENTER THE SECURITIES AS CASH IN ORDER TO CONTINUE WITH THE PROGRAM.
What's not so great: DIDN'T ALLOW ME TO IMPORT INFORMATION ON DONATED SECURITIES FROM FIDELITY CHARITABLE, TO FORM 8283
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I have been a tax specialist for the last 10 years. I have averaged about 52 minutes for all returns, approximately 3,000 returns in total. Using this software was quite different, but very easy to navigate. I will use it in the future since I have also retired from being a professional tax associate.
What's great about it: good detail for deductions
What's not so great: Hidden filing fees; upgrade for investment income
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

2014 Turbo Tax
on March 29, 2015

I have been using TurboTAX for years and after I got the correct version (Permier - vs Basic used last year) I was able to work on my taxes. There was a change in IRS handling of bond premiums and covered/non-covered and I was able to contact TurboTAX twice and got information/advice from one of their technical CPA's. Was very impressed with that. With the info I found on the net, and from TurboTAX, I felt very confident in how I did my return and my olbigations to track some info for future reporting.
What's great about it: Can be guide through or work on your own. Excellent phone support
What's not so great: This year - confusion on what version of TurboTax was needed
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good but still lots of detailed work to do...!

I continue to like Turbo Tax and have used it for years. The entire engine between forms and step by step is getting better and smoother. The federal form clearly ranks an "A+" but there are still a lot of calculations to do, and it isn't always clear where some of the auto data comes from. So when I downloaded information from Fidelity, well, I wasn't quite sure where Turbo Tax got what they got. It took some sleuthing.
State forms are significantly more difficult and frankly, Turbo Tax does NOT know them as well. If you understand your state tax nuances, you will do just fine. But in some cases, the program asks you a nebulous question and frankly, just cannot provide you enough help for an answer. If your state taxes are simple it is never an issue. Unfortunately, you will have to surf the net for a few answers there. I give the state versions a solid "B".
What's great about it: Auto load of just about everything, including last year's forms
What's not so great: You cannot auto load everything, like basis for stock transactions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

A Smooth, Polished Program Helps in Tax season!

Each year TurboTax gets easier to use, Even with investments and rental income.
I remember the first time TurboTax talked to me! Wow! It was a first for a program for me.
I also remember when TurboTax suggested I try DC's option to "File Separately on Same Return" instead of "File Jointly". Turbo Tax saved me about $300 that year.
TurboTax remembers the previous year's information which not only speeds up preparation but also cues you that you forgot something,
TurboTax got me through my "retirement" last year -- lots of new issues and items. This year was a piece of cake. Easy as pie ...
What's great about it: Guidance
What's not so great: I miss "Forms" on the Menu bar.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
