Not as simple as it sounds

when you pay for the premier to get what used to be deluxe is one pain but then paying additional filing fees for the free state seems to make it a little harder to swallow. having used turbo tax since the 80's the process has not changed the flow seems easier (or I am getting used to it) today. Being able to import last years data and data from banks and brokerage houses is very helpful, and if yyou set up quicken right you can import from there too.
What's great about it: helps get you organized
What's not so great: not as easy to get around return forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Pretty much painless this time around. New situation for me in that I inherited some stocks and was concerned that it would be a pain to get through it all. Very simple when it was all said and done.
What's great about it: Easy to follow directions
What's not so great: I don't know if my union dues got deducted
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Gets easier every year!

Every year I find that you can import more data from providers - W2, 1099, etc. Key entering all the information takes up a lot of time, which is saved through the import. The question and answer format is best. It takes longer to go through, but most answers are "No" so it isn't that bad. If you don't go through all the categories, you risk missing something. I was flagged to upgrade to Premier because of some one-time trades. I doubt I'll need it next year, so I'll have to remember to review my subscription at renewal time because it looks like they've signed me up automatically for the Premier, which I probably won't need.
What's great about it: Importing tax data, easy question and answer format
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great Tax Helper

Very easy to walk through preparing and filing tax forms. I spent about 2 to 3 hours clicking through all the forms and entering amounts as asked. i like how last years information is available and carried into this years forms. I have used Turbo Tax for the last 5 years and it is so much easier than picking up all the information and going to the local tax store. I used to work for a national tax preperation company and this is so much easier and most likely cheaper.
What's great about it: Easy to walk through completing taxes
What's not so great: Some things are not easy to fix.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Not happy I had to buy the Premier version because the took Schedule D out of Deluxe. I can only assume it was to make more money for intuit. Not a :-( camper about that.
What's great about it: I have used Turbo Tax in the past and it is easy to use.
What's not so great: I had to buy the Premier version this year were in the past I could use Deluxe

A few critiques this year: The California State return is difficult to navigate. It would be nice to have similar functionality as the federal return system. Filling out children's tax forms is too difficult. If you complete tax forms for yourself and three kids, all returns should be able to reference each other. Having to reenter parents 1040 and 540 information on every child's return is strangely un automated. I have to mail a state return so I can't use the free state file option. Why can't I use this option for one of my kid's returns?
