Good but

I have used TurboTax for about ten years. This year I was forced to upgrade from deluxe to premier (free this time) because of a very minor item - a $10 capital gain on a mutual fund sale. That will be an issue next year when choosing whether to use TurboTax again. The charitable contribution now requires less detail and is much less annoying. I did get stuck in a loop of repeatedly reviewing my returns. I finally used the tabs to jump to the next step. Also I was apparently a victim of fake return filing. TurboTax could have been more helpful. The messages were not clear about which (fed or state) was being rejected and gave no indication which ss#, mine, spouse, or both, was causing the conflict.
What's great about it: Allows bypassing items, entering charitable contributions is easier
What's not so great: Explanations are not always clear
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I had to rush to get my return done in March, and Turbo Tax was right there to keep up with me...and when I am rushed, I am not always patient. I have used Turbo Tax for years, and it has never let me down.
What's great about it: The step by step process is easy to follow.
What's not so great: No Cons
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Less user friendly; poor NY State support

Overall, it was a very frustrating experience this year, much unlike past years, when things went smoothly. TurboTax wouldn't save my form, even after putting it in several places on my computer. It kept asking me to start over. FINALLY, I got it to save it one place, desktop, and could access it there without losing data. But the Turbo Tax icon remains on many places on my computer.
Then when it came to the NY State forms, there was no clear why to exempt TIAA-CREF retirement income--allowed by the State under special agreement with TIAA-CREF. I finally had to guess by entering "Special Accruals" in the Other Subtractions category. But I was unable to identify the "accrual." It did seem to work, eliminating the initial large amount owed to NY State and reducing it to zero (as in most past years) But New York may audit it me, questioning this "special accrual" because it's not identified.
What's great about it: The ease of the calculations
What's not so great: Did not save well; had to enter data twice; unclear about NY State subtractions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

NEEDS SOME STREAMLINING. YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE ME BACK OVER THE SAME QUESTIONS.
YOU USED TO PRINT THE VOUCHERS AUTOMATICALLY.
What's great about it: THOROUGH
What's not so great: CUMBERSOME! PRINTING TEN VOUCHERS TOOK SEVERAL HOURS.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Review of Turbo Tax 2014 Premier
on March 29, 2015

I've been using TT for years and years, and it is nice to see that it has improved each year. I prepare simple taxes, so TT is probably more than I need, but I like the guidance through the topics so it's almost impossible to miss something. This year was the easiest and smoothest use of TT in all my years of using it.
What's great about it: Very smooth operation, especially importing data.
What's not so great: Too much clicking needed to review just one page

Problem with estimate flag
on March 29, 2015
Posted by: PatMow
The 2014 Premium edition was a snap to use, except that the smart check claimed that a 1099-R entry was incorrect, that I should correct it, then remove "estimate" from the edit menu. You could point out that it is the drop-down edit menu.
What's great about it: Claimed 1099-R declaration was an estimate
What's not so great: Didn't tell where the Edit Menu is
Pros: I moved
