Almost Perfect...
on March 29, 2015
Posted by: RudiW
This is the third year I've used a TurboTax product to do my taxes. It is the easiest and most comprehensive tax prep software I've used. I intend to keep using it in the future.
My only criticism is that when it says "checking for missing information" the program doesn't actually check everything. For example, missing information regarding a dependent care provider wasn't caught and my initial return was rejected. I eventually found what was missing and refiled without incident.
What's great about it: Very easy to use, common-language explanation of complicated subject matter.
What's not so great: Did not catch missing information, some flags didn't work

Fed Taxes ok, state taxes ok, RITA taxes weak
on March 29, 2015

There are too many look ups on your own for RITA taxes for things like tax rates and credits. I wind up going to the RITA website to file there. Also the TurboTax gives great instructions for State taxes the city taxes still seem to be an afterthought
What's great about it: Federal Taxes worked great
What's not so great: City tax calculations poor

TurboTax Premier - NOT IN MARYLAND
on March 29, 2015
Posted by: halderman2
As a user of TTax since 1988, I was very displeased to learn that I could not claim a Maryland tax "CREDIT" because TurboTax does not support the form. I have to efile (Maryland mandatory requirement) to claim the credit. However, due to non-support by TTax, I cannot complete my Maryland return nor can I efile it. TTax was a waste of money as I now have to find another tax prep program that will handle this situation or have my Maryland return prepared professionally.
What's great about it: Ease of use; importing of prior years' data
What's not so great: Does not support required Maryland forms

TURBO TAX QUALITY IS SLIPPING
on March 29, 2015
Posted by: JEBISTIRED44
The program seems set up to encourage the electronic filing of both Federal and State returns at the same time. Filing the Federal electronically was easy and done without problems.
The confusion arose when I wanted to print out a copy of the state and file it by mail. The instructions were unclear and the informaion printed out was hard to read. Determining what to send and what to keep was a challenge. There is no excuse for this level of unclarity.
What's great about it: The program asked questions (identified by the numbers of the forms required).
What's not so great: printing and filing instructions were a mess

never again
What's great about it: didn't have to wwrite in longhand
What's not so great: no carryover from 2014; poor security of personal information resulted in tax related identity theft

1099R form processing
on March 29, 2015
Posted by: Sharon70
The process for entering one particular 1099R form did not seem to have a good choice for the situation where my company that provided the pension bought an annuity for me in place of the pension. I just turned 70 1/2 in 2014 and TurboTax seemed to want a minimum required deposit amount from me, but that did not apply. I had to call my plan administrator. They said one did not apply. I finally put down an amount of zero - but I think you should add a third category of choice called something like "RMD does not apply to this annuity."
What's great about it: I was able to type in myself
What's not so great: Didn't seem to be a good choice for RMD on a 1099R

Good
What's great about it: Fairly straight forward as usual.
What's not so great: After the fiasco with Turbo Tax Delux return it turned out ok.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
