I had been told by "professionals" I did not have to file taxes, so was not going to. Turbo Tax caused me to look more and I discovered I did have to file. That was a great discovery as it got me over a thousand dollars in tax rrefunds I would otherwise not have gotten had I not filed. Thanks TurboTax!
What's great about it: I did this myself!
What's not so great: Made me look for more stuff

Have used Turbo Tax almost as long as it has been around, I'm talking close to 30 years. It has always been end user friendly. Until this year the software has been consistent and reasonably priced for the average consumer. Has improved to a point where I can complete my simple returns in a very timely fashion. One can only hope corporate people will hold their greed in check, leave the software as it is, not try to balance their books on the backs of consumers. Great product!! Please don't screw it up.
What's great about it: Simple and straight forward for a no nonsense person. Easy to use, intuitive, comforting with respect to filing.
What's not so great: Wasn't happy with the company games with the different versions of the tax software this year.

TurboTax Price Hike

Only reason I didn't switch to H & R Block was because I had loss carryovers and didn't have time to start anew on a new system.
What's great about it: TurboTax still works.
What's not so great: You doubled price this year.

Filing my tax

1. Turbo Tax shouldn't charge state e-filing.
2. When I tried to pay the state e-filing, I had a hard to access to my existing (last year's) account.

Problems w/K-1

Can't handle a K-1 with both a business entity income and real estate income. Wants me to fill out separate K-1s, and I have no way of identifying what information from the consolidated K-1 I received should go on which Turbo Tax K-1.
The it insists that the entries on 2 lines of the TT K-1 form are the same, even though the descriptions are different (they just start with the same 1st word). Then TT calls that an error that I have no way of fixing because TT is wrong, and refuses to e-file. When I print my returns to file by mail, TT warns me that there are errors.
What's great about it: Great except for K-1s
What's not so great: Incorrectly insisted that entries on 2 lines are the same, though they are not. Refused to e-file.

Hawaii Part Year Resident Form N 15

My income was mainly a government pension. Hawaii does not tax government pensions, and I don't need to report it on the part year resident form N 15. My other income is way below the filing threshold, so I don't need to file a return. TT missed that.
What's great about it: TT was excellent with Federal and Maryland returns - saved tons of time and money, but ..
What's not so great: TT missed that I didn't need to file a return in Hawaii
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Awesome Experience Tax Refund

I really liked the user friendly software with the professional looking tax people posing the questions and prompting you. I also liked the fact that all the info went immediately where it was supposed to go.
What's great about it: Helpful Guidance with Tax Counselors
What's not so great: Needed slightly more specific help I bought tax reference book
