I owe but next year it changes!
on March 28, 2015

Next year our income will be half of what it was this year. We withdrew funds from 401K to move and purchase house, then a family death and we inherited a partial annuity. Next year our income will tank so it is very hard to pay like this is an every year occurrence. I am not sure if there were any way to offset this years income but we can see no reason to pay estimated taxes for next year. We are just going to make sure taxes come out of this years income.
What's great about it: I made it through
What's not so great: We owe heavily as we sold house, withdrew 401K $'s
Pros: I moved

Did not like having to upgrade to enter employee business expenses or paying for the state tax prep.
Entries below are personal that Turbo Tax does not have a need to know.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to use
What's not so great: Extra payments made

Worst Ever
on March 28, 2015

I ran this 2014 Turbo Tax Premier on Windows 8.1 but it locked up every time we clicked on a "more" tab and had to be recovered each time. Sometimes it didn't enter the last piece of information we entered so we had to constantly check to make sure we didn't leave something out. This is the worst experience we have ever had with Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Did cover all the tax area we needed.
What's not so great: Kept locking up and not saving entered information.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Review of 2914

I was disappointed in two ways.
1) I had several crashes while trying to transfer 2013 information to my 2014 return. I am a long time user and that has never happened before.
2) Some content from 2013 Deluxe was moved to 2014 Premier.
I will re-evalaute my tax software choice prior to next year.
What's not so great: Some content of Deluxe moved to Premier. Several crashes.

Trust Fund Missing
on March 28, 2015

I have used TurboTax for years. But in 2013 with the death of my mother, I needed to file a 1041 and k-1 so I bought TurboTax business which sells itself as used to manage an estate / trust. The only problem is, it only has the forms. It did not have the capability to download the end of year 1099s from financial institutions and would force me to manual input the basis, etc for each transaction over a year. That was money wasted as it was unusable to me. That would have been hundreds of manual entries. That convenience is especially important the first year after a death because the basis of all stocks in a portfolio changes on that date. The whole purpose of using tax software is to make life easy for one and since the financial institutions have done most of the work, not being able to download their results is a big CON
What's great about it: Generally, it is good for an individual or small business
What's not so great: It is not good for doing Personal Estate Trust Fund

Got it done quickly!

Been using since DOS program. Gets better every year. Nice and quick, logical presentations. Love the review or errors feature.
I am clueless on the software problems from earlier in the year. None of the e-mail explanations made sense to me. They were a stark contrast to the easy to follow instructions in Turbo Tax.
I did appreciate getting a free upgrade, but stock transactions were handled by the Deluxe version. Why was this eliminated? If I sound confused, I am one of several million others?
What's great about it: Much simpler presentation
What's not so great: Confused e-mail messages about software problems.
