Not good this year

I had to go back and correct all of the data from my 1099 by entering it myself. The first time I had the info imported just like last year and it was INCORRECT. I will probably use another company next year.
What's not so great: Listed my capitol gains from my IRA as in come!!!

bad start, good finish

I did most of the work in January, plotting my final estimates. When I tried to open TurboTax in March, it repeatedly crashed on opening on my Mac 10.10.2. Finally I called phone support, and the nice lady walked me through uninstalling every trace of the former version, and reinstalling from my CD/updating. After all that, it worked well, and the returns have been filed.
What's great about it: got it done with minimum fuss & bother
What's not so great: repeatedly crashed on startup, & had to uninstall/reinstall

Quick and easy

This is the easiest way I know of for my spouse and I to do our taxes together--everything orchestrated by a neutral third party! We sit at the screen together, both see the same questions and confirm with a few touches of the keyboard. Then we even get chances to go back and review when we might have second thoughts about something. Peacekeeper!
What's great about it: Thorough step by step so nothing is overlooked
What's not so great: Sometimes not sure something I have is going to come up in another section

Fix the bugs with Form 1116 Foreign Tax Credit

Turbo Tax hss bugs that have been around for years unfixed.
1. If you tax free income from a mutual fund, you have to manually enter xx in a space on the forms. Come on you know its a mutual fund. Fix it.
2. If you have form 1116 foreign tax credit and you have income from more than one country in a given account, you have to manually create dummy 1099s for each country. The sum of the 1099s has to equal the original. You have known about this bug for years. The above work around is on your Web site. Fix it.
Turbo Tax is very expensive, I would use something else, but have legacy data that doesn't seem to carry over to other programs.
What's great about it: It works
What's not so great: Too Expensive, Same bugs unfixed for years

I've been doing my taxes for decades and have never experienced a slower way to prepare my returns. Even doing them by hand was faster.
What's great about it: Transfer of last year's information
What's not so great: Very slow to use.

Less pleased this year

Significantly less pleases with Turbo Tax this year. The constant updates without the ability to decline was too time consuming. Couldn't just go back in and start to work, even if the upgrade was for something that didn't apply to me. Having to upgrade from the Deluxe version just to get capital loss forms was unacceptable, extremely poor management and what amounts to bait and switch marketing. Federal income estimating form for next year was not obvious, required a search to find.
What's great about it: download from financial institutions, step-by-step, able to put information in as it arrives Turbo Tax recalculates
What's not so great: having to upgrade to get capital loss forms, constant updates - couldn't get back in just to look at something

I have used turbo-tax for several years. I prefer to talk to a live person when I get stuck because I get very rattled. They always have calm, efficient, and kind people. We usually have a good laugh along with my remedy. lol
