Overall Great Experience

I really like TurboTax and have used it for years and will continue to do so in future. Most of the process is super easy, but there are two things that always take me time to figure out. First, I earn royalty money from a textbook and having to file this as a Business seems really ridiculous, especially when TurboTax tells me I need to upgrade to the most expensive of their tax packages (when in fact, I don't need to). Second, the data transfer from the Federal return to my State return always results in any miscellaneous income I have on the Federal form not carrying over to my State form, except as a warning that there is Federal income not reported on my State form. And, in this case, TurboTax identifies only the first item in miscellaneous income rather than all of them. Plus, at the point of notification that miscellaneous income hasn't transferred, TurboTax should include a link that automatically takes me to where I need to add this additional income in the State form. Instead, I have to wander thru many parts of the State form until I can figure out how to add the miscellaneous income. It would be great to have this fixed.
What's great about it: Walk-thrus are very easy to follow; doesn't take extraordinary amount of time to fill out and file
What's not so great: transfer of Federal info into state form not always glitch-free

Works Great, IRS does not seem to like it

We love Turbo Tax as it is simple, walks us through the process and we complete our taxes without the hassle of taking everything to someone else. We think the IRS does not like Turbo Tax as every year we get letters asking for more information and telling us we owe more money. Once we send in the 'more information' it turns out we DON"T OWE more money but this always take the IRS a long time to figure out. This annual issue with the IRS is very stressful. It begins to feel like harassment as this has been going on annually for the last several years of using Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: We get a letter every year from the IRS

Good experience again. Program met all my needs. Turbo tax 2013 provided excellent help in filing an amended return for 2013. Excellent in downloading info from brokerage firms.
What's great about it: very efficient handling of inputs - especially broker downloads
What's not so great: cost of state efile

TurboTax should allow you to do all types of filing on one by clicking your choice. After I purchased the Tax Turbo Deluxe, I could not continue inputting information for my tax refturn until I upgraded to Premier.
What's great about it: Easy to use and assist with getting you many deductions
What's not so great: Turbo Tax state its free to efile but charge processing fee and provide only one free state

Ackward to Use

After all this time in use you would think that using Turbo Tax would be a comfortable experience but it is not.
The biggest problem is that it only gives limited feedback to the user after entry of data. Therefore no confidence is given that the data input is recorded properly or that it had the desired or expected tax effect. Continual comparison with previous years would also be a great enhancement.
What's great about it: Confidence that complied with confusing Tax Laws
What's not so great: Still not a pleasent user experiance
Pros: I bought or sold investments

The "SAVE AS" function needs to be brought back since it is not possible to save a previous tax file and come back to it after you have tried/added items to the tax file.
What's great about it: Okay but awkward
What's not so great: Very time consuming to print forms that are only one page on a single page. Also, the "Save as" function is no longer av
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Questioning use of turbotax next year
on March 28, 2015

I have used and enjoyed Turbotax for 15+ years. I have always believed the software to provide excellent value to people who want to do their own taxes. Extra forced fees (i.e. audit defense, electronic filing) have slowly been taking away the value of the product. For a few more dollars I can have a professional tax consultant do my work. I would truly like to return to Turbotax next year, but I am questioning it after having filed my taxes and had to put up with the "shake-down" or underhanded way they seek to profit. Turbotax executives... Please provide value and return to your product's previously respected status. If you do, I promise you will continue to have very loyal customers. Thank you.
What's great about it: Good section coverage, year to year info import and comparison
What's not so great: Forced extra fees, all forms are not included

Frustrating Technical Issues
on March 28, 2015

For several years now, I have not been able to run TurboTax on my PC. It would install, but when I clicked on the icon, nothing happened. This year, I did more research and finally figured out that all I had to do was start it from the file by doing a right click and selecting Run As Administrator. It sure would have helped if Quicken had this information on its website.
This year, doing my federal taxes went fine. When I clicked on Start for my state tax, it downloaded and installed the state program. But when I clicked on start again, it just did the same thing. I did research on line, and tried several things. I don't know which one worked, but the one Quicken recommended did not. This glitch was due to my installing Deluxe, only to find that it did not include Schedules C or E. For some reason, installing Premier after installing Deluxe caused this problem.
What's great about it: Program makes it easy to file faxes
What's not so great: Technical issues
Pros: I bought or sold investments
