Upgrade to Premier not fair
on March 27, 2015

Since I have stocks that need to be entered for taxes, TurboTax forced buyers to upgrade from Deluxe to Premier. This was not a good strategy. I will now be switching software for next year if this strategy continues.
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: too expensive

Routine tax prep...
on March 27, 2015

Preparation of my family's returns went reasonably well, but I have been using TurboTax for about ten years now and understand the drill. I thought the analysis and preparation of the Health Insurance tax penalties and credits occasioned by the ACA was systematic and accurate. The ACA affected my daughter's return significantly and the software "more info" notes helped a great deal. Well done!
What's great about it: Flexibility to go back and "redo" areas as new information and knowledge warrants.
What's not so great: Program overdoes e-file invitation.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Turbo tax really simplifies my tax return preparations. It's also accurate, as I had used a CPA before trying Turbo tax. The results were almost identical.
What's great about it: easy to use

One of things I liked best about turbotax was the cost basis feature that figured out the cost basis for me included dividends which could be used on transactions that that were old and the institution where they are being held did not have cost basis.
What's great about it: Using turbo tax for years
What's not so great: Disappointed you took out the cost basis feature
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great For Investment Accounts
on March 27, 2015

Excellent for importing data from investment accounts. Automatically calculates reinvestment info such as long/short term and partial shares.
Must be careful not to import the same data more than once.
Since my computer crashed my previous years return was lost. Could not easily file an amended return.
What's great about it: Excellent for importing data from investment accounts.
What's not so great: Possible to import same data more than once.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
