Tax Ace

Turbo Tax makes it easy to fill out the necessary forms, especially after the first year of use when much information is copied from the previous year's return. I would recommend this product to people who are comfortable using their computer for a fast and efficient tax return.
What's great about it: quick and accurate
What's not so great: none
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Every Year

I have purchased and sold several homes over the last several years and this is the most difficult area of Turbo Tax to negotiate or go back and zero in on when you want to find CPA type questions that would be asked. I think this could be improved upon. Also I have had an inheritance this year and di not see any area in Turbo Tax that addressed this. I hope next years TurboTax (2015) will again have CPA type questions that will appropriately lead me through the question involving investment accounts, IRA's, homes and valuables that I have inherited, or I will be forced to use a living CPA, it appears to be a very weak area of TurboTax
What's great about it: Its pretty easy to use
What's not so great: Somewhat conveluted when working around the saleof a home whether it be a rental property or a primary or secondary home
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

My thoughts on 2014 Turbo Tax
on October 11, 2015

I had a 1099-B that proved to be quite an education. My broker and turbo-Tax were no help. Finally got everything figured out, entered the info into Turbo Tax, checked it, and then Turbo-Tax changed the values. Don't understand why the values were changed, and no they weren't rounded-off. Also had similar problem on Schedule B, entered a value from my 1099-INT, checked the value later, it appeared as entered, and then value was changed. Filed with discrepancies because I was tired of playing games and I'm talking one dollar amounts, but still different than 1099's.
What's great about it: Zips you through from one aspect of your tax return to another.
What's not so great: Spent a lot of time trying to change amounts entered that the program would change after info entrered!

I have been a user of this program for over 20 years, this was the first problem year and the worst year for the program. As it started out, the Premier version was incomplete and was later modified online to include capitol gains. The Premier version always included this feature. After the upgrade it was very difficult to access information after entry and finalize the return. I had 22 entries for stock transactions and at the final check it continued to ask me to input cost information for each item on the worksheets, yet the work sheets did not have sufficient information on each individual item to fill in the requested information...yet if you went back into the program under files and forms each worksheet was in fact complete with all information. This prevented me from filing electronically and I have doubts about the correctness of my return. I may consider a different tax program next year, very disappointing.

form 8949

Could not fix incorrect data on the form. Correct data downloaded from broker, and I could repair the problem. Paid the higher tax and hope I will not have to deal with this problem again. I have used Turbo Tax for years. I do not know what I will do next year. You do not seem to be able to help with a problem when I looked for help. I always raved about the program until this.
What's not so great: No Help

Backing up in a sequence is dangerous in TTax
on October 15, 2015

It appears that one needs to save one's work in TTax every few minutes to avoid having to redo 5-6 hours work. I was just able to redo it all in time to file.
What's great about it: Lots of guidance
What's not so great: TTax hit a bump and wiped out 5 hours work

IT Guidance!!!!

Like the step by step prompts - and the choice of addressing only what you want to work on at the moment. Love that Tech support stays with you when needed until the problem is completely resolved!!!
What's great about it: When trouble with the new Healthcare coverage reporting prevented filing, IT support walked me thru all possibilities!
What's not so great: There is not an override for information you know to be correct.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
