Came to their senses

After the enormous wave of adverse publicity, it was smart for Intuit to back away from the decision to move the expected Deluxe features to the Premier version and force customers to spend a lot more money for a whole lot of features they didn't need or want. But we'll have to see what the effect on market share will be next year. However, this was the first year I drew on my 529 account for college expenses, and TT was showing excess contribution (incorrectly) until I figured out from an hour of web searching that I needed to have zeroed out a default value; once done, that made things correct. This should get some attention next year.
What's great about it: Usual solid application, except...
What's not so great: Stupid to remove features people depended on, just to drive revenue
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good Overall But Could Be Better
on March 25, 2015

Long time user of Turbo-Tax and the program gets better each year. Some areas for improvement:
Form 6252 line 19 calculates incorrectly for subsequent years.
K-1 entry fields do not correlate well to actual K-1's. Would be better to group all related entry fields on one page (e.g. all 13T entries).
Better tracability from WS entries to forms.
What's great about it: Generally very good overall
What's not so great: K-1 entry fields. Inability to trace WS entries to forms.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Used to be better

I wish it were easier to back up and review previously addressed sections. Some of the wording, such as “Update” is confusing, as it implies that more information is required when none is. I found TurboTax easier to use in the 1990s than it is now.
What's great about it: Good guide through the process
What's not so great: Difficult to leave the intended path

Easier and quicker than 2013 Turbo Tax except for annoying health care requirements forms
What's great about it: Clearer instructions
What's not so great: Health Care requirement should not be part of IRS
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Have used Deluxe T-Tax for years. This yr made me upgrade to Premier for free, though I figure next year I will just have to buy Premier at greater $$.
What's great about it: Love step-by-step.
What's not so great: DIDN'T take to me where I left off. Opening screen kept on wanting me to fill it out - even tho I did 2X.

Great Tax Software But Not Without Its Quirks!
on March 25, 2015

This is an excellent software program for doing taxes. For those who are new to Turbo Tax, or are novices at doing taxes, or require a little hand-holding, this is a great way to do taxes. For the more knowledgeable and advanced tax filers, this is also a great way of doing taxes because they can opt to bypass the simplistic approach/methodology and go straight to the relevant sections and items applicable to them. One area that Turbo Tax excels at is taking a tax filer's information pertaining to Section 179 Property expenses and filling in IRS Form 4562 (Depreciation & Amortization# automatically in an easy way. Like most good software programs there are always a few quirks usually involving more complicated issues and topics. For example, in my opinion they need to redo the "step-by-step" process and/or format when entering/inputting data related to ESPPs, employee business expenses, foreign holdings & accounts, mortgage interest info, and state sales tax matters so that the software is either more logical or reflects reality better. In some cases, the Turbo Tax process or method can be at variance with how a filer would normally handle #fill out# the corresponding traditional IRS forms, though in the end they reach the same outcome/result. While this is good it can also be a little disconcerting for those used to filling out the IRS paperwork the old-fashioned way #by hand). Overall - a good, solid program!
What's great about it: Great format that can "hold your hand" throughout the process.
What's not so great: Has a few quirks and a few items do not involve the most logical method of doing them.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I had seen a review on TV that said people were not satisfied with the CD version of the program. I have used TT for many years and have always used the CD version. Not sure what the problem was, it worked better than ever.
What's great about it: I thought it flowed nicely. Didn't seem to take as long as prior years
What's not so great: None
