Loyal Turbo Tax User

I have used Turbo Tax for years and I swear by this software. It gets better each year. Using this software, is like sitting with a preparer only you have to do the typing. Over the years so many improvements have been made to make filing so much easier. This is so worth the cost. The community Q&A helps and you can click on "learn more" and see IRS information. Using Turbo Tax is so simple, there is no reason to seek professional assistance and pay unnecessary fees. Thanks Turbo Tax - keep us the great work.
What's great about it: Very user friendly. Easy to use..
What's not so great: None.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

The Easiest Way To Do Your Taxes
on March 25, 2015
Posted by: Karen839011
I have been using Turbo Tax for over 20 years and have never had a problem with it. I like the way it can upload investment data from my brokerage firm. It asks questions that clarify my tax situation. There are no glitches. Everything matches my own paperwork when it uploads the information. I also don't have to have last year's return available to do my current year's taxes. It just captures the info from my previous year's entries. It is cost-effective as well.
What's great about it: It leads you through your entire return. It is intuitive. It is reliable. Best of all, it's easy!
What's not so great: Honestly can't think of any negatives.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Rapid but not as good as the past

I have used Turbotax software since it came on floppy disks many years ago for myself and for clients.
This year there was a Worksheet for Capital Gains that was not completely filled out and it was unclear why and help was not easily available.
Direct link to USAA accounts was not usable because software froze. Worked OK with Fidelity and Wells Fargo.
What's great about it: Carry over from prior years, logical progression of information
What's not so great: Seems to be an upsell issue every year now

Form 8615 Children with Unearned Income
on March 25, 2015
Posted by: TheBigLee
When you have two children and are liquidating investments made in their name over their lifetime to pay for their college expenses, it is necessary to use this(these) forms.
Turbo Tax needs to work on making this process easier and less complex, perhaps by linking multiple filings of tax forms prepared for each child.
Additionally by having a means to test if it is more economical to file one family return or separate forms for each child
What's great about it: I guess it works
What's not so great: Confusing and Cumbersome
Pros: I bought or sold investments

This version was not the best, I think you will agree. See my cons. In addition, I was confused by the Dividend total on the federal income page. The amount show includes both exempt and non-exempt amount. I did confirm that the non-exempt about is used in computing your total income on 1040 for the year. Perhaps a footnote stating this display shows both exempt and non-exempt numbers will make this clearer.
What's great about it: speed of screens, easy to follow steps
What's not so great: This year was a mess with mixup over state and requiring professional version upgrade.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
