Turbo Tax

I've been using Turbo Tax for 10 years. It is easy to use and meets my needs. I like the way it guides me through each subject. I purchased Turbo Tax Deluxe and didn't realize I needed a form from Turbo Tax Premier. I was upgraded FREE!
What's great about it: Easy to use & follow, exceptional walk through on all subjects
What's not so great: Nothing stands out

No complaints at all. I've used Turbo Tax for several years and find in very detailed and helpful to complete my taxes.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Excellent for Federal; not usable for Pennsylvania

The Premier Program was showing as line 1a income what I receive as pension and IRA income when Pennsylvania does not tax either.
Also I could not figure out how to enter information on the state return when it seemed to be asking something for 1971. I know that Pennsylvania initiated a personal income tax in 1971 and cannot tax income before that date, but computing basis of stock sales for stocks acquired before that date is complex. I simply did not know what the program was asking for.

What's great about it: Excellent help from customer service with federal problem
What's not so great: Not usable for Pennsylvania for at least two reasons

I love using TT however this year, for whatever reason, it seemed as if the language changed on the part of the form where we talk about depreciation of a rental property. The page where you have to answer yes or no to determine whether PA's depreciation was the same as the federal amount was difficult - the explanation provided just added to the confusion. Luckily, i know a CPA who was able to clarify how it should answered without charging me....this needs to be reviewed for 2015
What's great about it: easy to follow questions
What's not so great: section on depreciation of rental property was ambiguous

The pre-filing review indicated I had an error in my return because a description field had too many characters. The system would not proceed without me correcting the error but it was only through trial and error that I was able to get to correct field and edit it. I am not even certain how I did it. Other than that, after getting my upgrade to Premier, which I needed as I had capital gains to report, everything went fairly smoothly. The upgrading process did not go all that well but eventually I was able to speak with someone with the knowledge and ability to accomplish the upgrade.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to use.
What's not so great: The system should not allow you to enter too many characters in a field.

Bitter-sweet

To be fair, I seldom go to the community, but this time I was trying to re-calculate my estimated state tax, and could not find how to get to it.
I have been using the product for about 8 + years, and I keep coming back. Part of the issue is that our tax codes are a disaster - on paper or on line. We need to scrap the whole thing!
What's great about it: Well architected, mostly good contextual navigation
What's not so great: I always hit a dead end somewhere with no help or answers

I generally enjoy the process of using TurboTax for my taxes each year. However, its gotten so slick that I can't figure out where numbers are being calculated from when I review my printed taxes. I try to go back into the software to determine the source for the data, but it doesn't let you change it right on the form like it used to. For example, I entered some expenses twice and needed to remove the second entry, but had to go back into the step by step tutorial to find the questions and then change my answers. Also, the option to use "Walk me through everything" or "I'll choose what I work on" only worked in the Income section, but not the deductions section. I've never had a problem with the IRS over my tax filing, so I do believe I can trust Intuit to make sure the right info gets to the right place on each form. Overall, a great product.
What's great about it: Walks me through all the steps for filing
What's not so great: I wasn't able to change entries on the forms myself and couldn't easily find where the data came from.
