Reporting Sale of Vacant Land
on March 23, 2015
Posted by: Soundman53
The process was not straight forward. First attempt software directed data to be entered on a 1099B form which populated the information on a 8949 form then reported as Capital Gains/and Losses. There should be a question to as whether other property, (not Main home ) was sold during reporting year then go directly to that the 8949 form, then information is used to populate the Capital Gains and Losses in Schedule D. IRS Pub 8949 provide all the pertinent information needed to calculate sale proceeds, cost of basis, etc.
What's not so great: Process too cumbersome and confusing

All in all a great piece of software and very user friendly. Again, improvements from year to year make me keep coming back.
What's great about it: Can download more complete data now from Ameritrade
What's not so great: Links to foreign interest conversion rates missing.

ETRADE & FED FILING NOT WORKING LIKE YEARS PAST
on March 23, 2015
Posted by: 2015TAXES4US
I WOULD NOT USE THIS YEARS SOFTWARE. I WILL GIVE NEXT YEAR ANOTHER CHANCE KIND OF LIKE 3 STRIKES AND YOUR OUT. THIS YEARS WOULD BE STRIKE 1.
What's great about it: LETS YOU WORK ON TAXES ON YOUR TIME
What's not so great: THIS YEAR HAS TO BE THE WORST TAX SOFTWARE MALFUNCTION
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Was disappointed to learn the Basic software was stripped of the previous years forms for filing such as K-1 schedules. Had to purchase the premium upgrade after having already purchased the Basic. Should have explained this in the presentation of the Basic software. Looked the same as previous years from the package but it was not.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

House depreciation and expenses
on March 23, 2015
Posted by: MBob2738
Continue to have problems with entering income and expenses for a rental property. Maybe if you could have all income and expenses on one page from previous year and then enter new values for current year, something like federal deductions view. Also it would be nice to have a sample depreciation shown for both first year and current year so I can make sure I am entering everything required. Otherwise good job for income and expenses from a general view.
What's not so great: Confusion or order for rental property inputs.

Not ready for 1099-S
on March 23, 2015
Posted by: Mackfc
However, I was able to finally speak with a turbo tax expert and he walked me through the process which was great.
What's great about it: Help icon gave examples but not relevant to my need. Turbo tax team help me greatly.
What's not so great: Unable to reach turbo tax without a lot of delay. Not set up to take 1099-S information easily.
