I was glad to see that TurboTax made it right after they took some heat for changing the contents of the Deluxe software. I had to use the Premier this year due to these changes and I had already purchased Deluxe as in years past, but they upgraded my software at no charge. Way to keep the customer happy, thanks.
What's great about it: Very comprehensive questionaire format

yearly tax preparation

generally very good product - have been using every year for some time - have noticed that occasionally will skip an important section - this year had hard time with entering roth conversion - taxes were added on the conversion - however, this was reversed later in the program - there should also be better explanation for ira contribution as nondeductible when placed for roth conversion
What's great about it: covers all categories
What's not so great: poor explanation of roth conversion

Pro: We needed to make changes to our investment portfolio in late 2014; the changes had significant financial consequences. We tested different scenarios by "making changes, but not saving" to our 2013 taxes. We would not have been comfortable changing our portfolio without Turbotax.
Con: I'd be more comfortable if investment income (1099-DIV's) could be alphabetized on Schedule B. It would be much easier to check that we have included all 1099-DIV's.
Con: Federal EasyStep questions were asked for 1099-R income, to determine how the income should be treated on the NY return. The questions were not always clear. I researched online to see how income should be treated in NY. Then I guessed how to answer the EasyStep questions. Then I looked whether the income was treated correctly on the NYS form. In one instance, it was not; so I went back and changed my answer to the EasyStep question.
What's great about it: Invaluable for year-end planning.
What's not so great: Alphabetize. Improve 1099-R questions for handling NY 1099 income.

I like importing data from last years taxes. This helps me remember carry-overs.

on March 22, 2015

I was disappointed to have to pay for the Premier edition this year where in the past I only used the Deluxe edition. How do I get a refund of the difference?
Regards,
Scott Baxter
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Had to pay extra for premier edition

2014 Return
on March 22, 2015

Overall, Turbo Tax works well, but if there is a conflict in the information entered the help areas (Quick Zoom in particular, and if linked) do not provide a solution and at times it's difficult if not impossible to resolve the problem. Entering K1 information is the most problematic, and has been for years.
I'm also amused at the statement that "Turbo Tax has saved you...., etc." when I'm the one providing the information. The program afterall is a tool (I good one, I admit) to do my taxes, but a tool requiring my attention.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to use.
What's not so great: Links to workpages (when they exist) are unreliable. K1 section needs work, a lot of work.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Changing K-1 Forms on Deluxe
on March 22, 2015
Posted by: derickdurden
I noticed K-1 Forms were being removed from the Deluxe Edition. I appreciate the "free upgrade" to premier. Understand I will not use TurboTax next year if I have to buy premier to use the K-1 feature. My situation is not worth it
What's great about it: Quick and Easy
What's not so great: Removing K-1 Forms from Deluxe Edition
