Expired Call Option Cost Basis Sold Short
on March 22, 2015
Posted by: robisonjim
Expired call options sold short have a cost basis of zero that is not imported correctly from Schwab. TurboTax assumes that the cost basis can't be zero and forces user to manually place a zero in the cost basis field, causing a lot more work. I may change to another tax service if this doesn't get corrected on next year's version.
What's great about it: Transfer of last year data to current year
What's not so great: Cost basis import from Schwab needs correction
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Annoyed with the hidden fees
on March 22, 2015

I was really annoyed with this approach. I have been a huge fan of turbo tax and have used the software 7 of the last 8 years (multistate move caused me to need a professional). I loved the software because it was easy and cost effective, but they just charged me twice as much to complete my taxes this year than last. For this reason I will not use Turbo tax next year it is not worth it.
What's great about it: Great software and simple to run through
What's not so great: Hidden fees for everything over doubled the cost of the filing
Pros: I moved

It just does the job, nothing more

Intuit is betting on the users inertia and increases the price without adding any value.
Turbo Tax failed to import my W2 from the site it was uploaded to (this may not be their fault), but the import from their own Rental Property Manager software stinks - it is literally useless.
I have had it and I am ready to try another tax software TaxAct seems to be a much cheaper choice.
What's great about it: familiarity - if you used it in prior years
What's not so great: high price, clunky, import problems.

i liked how turbotax handled the suspect state return issue earlier this year; I did not like how at the start of each software session it was assumed a customer had instant or continuous access to the internet - in my case I decide when i am connected; i liked the flow of work sessions for completing my taxes; i did not like the options established for payment plans - i felt i was not meeting the satisfaction of the IRS requirements, my confidence in this part of your software pkg is low.
What's great about it: the continued reliability of the turbotax software
What's not so great: the opening screen assuming a person had instant online access
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turobo Tax

After paying for the program I found it disappointing that I had to pay for the state return to be filed for my son's return. The program has a high enough price that it should include 2 state returns. I will be looking into other programs next year prior to purchasing Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Over all I found the program easy to use.
What's not so great: Hard to get back to forms after they are completd

TurboTax gets better every year. I no longer have to call for help when I have a new financial situation. And, the questions and tips are written more clearly.
What's great about it: All of my downloadable information filled in automatically.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

We have use turbo tax for about 5 years. This year because we moved and sold our house and moved to another state, we had to file 3 returns. I downloaded the files to flash drive and sent it to our accountant for review. She made some changes and e-mailed it back. Wow, it was really easy. .
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: couldn't delete employe expense zero amount.
Pros: I moved

I get K-1 forms and I don't think turbo tax handles them well enough and I also get Royalties from owning stock and I did not feel I deducted the admin with ease I did have to call the help center and even on the phone for an hour, I did get an answer.
What's great about it: the yes / no questions
What's not so great: explanations of non common items
Pros: I bought or sold investments
