too often data input is requested, and subsequently Turbotax states some deduction doesn't reach a minimal limit. The condition for this was already known by Turbotax, so why does it ask you to provide the data?
What's not so great: too many irrelevant questions

Great for basic return

I've used Turbotax for years and have always been pleased, until this year. I had an inheritance and some issues that would require Schedule D and maybe Form 8949. I never got to the right "questions" to guide me through that with any confidence I was doing it right, and the "Search" option had no answers. Finally gave up.
What's great about it: Excellent for basic tax returns; great customer service rep
What's not so great: Not good for unusual circumstances

Does all the thinking, calculating and forms for you. Used Turbo Tax on a different computer this year and had to start from scratch because I was not able to transfer last years records to the other computer. But should be all set for next year.
What's great about it: Keeps up with fed tax regulations
What's not so great: Had to figure out a couple things misssing on 1099 forms from the banks.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Foreign Tax Reporting

I imported both of my year-in financial 1099-DIV forms into Turbotax and thought it would be clear sailing but it didn't turn out that way after doing the smart check which found 4 errors. I was able to correct it with marking the boxes with the X which seems to accept the 2a and 2c entries but it took a few trail by error attempts.
What's not so great: Somewhat confusing on choice of filling out form 1116 and getting credit.

Easy to do. Step by step instructions. Brings info over from last yr.
Charging to e-file state returns is a big CON. how much does it really cost to send it? Nothing. Both returns go to Intuit's servers and then goes to the Fed and your state tax dept servers. Too many added costs for little added valve.
What's great about it: step by step
What's not so great: paying for state e-file
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I'll say it again - TTax still unchecks boxes that I checked the first time through. Please correct this.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

This is the fourth year I've used Turbo Tax-- I will never use anything but! It's extremely user-friendly! I get huge refunds and feel very, very confident that Turbo Tax has done everything correctly!
What's great about it: It is soooo easy to use! I love the question and answer format.
