I don't know what happened to Turbo Tax for 2014 but was awful. Tried doing my father's taxes as I have in years passed and it made me upgrade to Premium. I had to pay to upgrade even though I received email that said I wouldn't. I guess next year I have to buy Premier, or maybe I'll go to another Tax Program - who knows.
What's great about it: nothing

Complexity Reduced

I had an extremely complex tax filing this year. I had credits for prior years AMT which were automatically brought forward from my years of using Turbo Tax. Plus, I lived in two states and had to allocate my income and pay taxes in two states! Turbo Tax guided me through the process and made it simple.
What's great about it: Automated prompting for information
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

lost filing

My prior year (2013) filing appeared to be retrievable from the cloud but it came through blank without the data. All my Turbo files and tax related spreadsheets from 2013 on my MAC were inaccessible ,alias files. It appears I was hacked. However I did received my State refund...so glad I filed by mail.
What's great about it: option to chose between input methods
What's not so great: lost my 2013 filing and I was hacked

Turbo Tax 2014 Review

I could be wrong, but I almost felt like I wasn't working on a tax return the screen views are so "sterile". I know this is complex business, but I didn't use the forms view just so I wouldn't have to read all of the BS the IRS puts on forms. But, at the same time, I would be happy if Turbo Tax at least "flashed" my paper return once in a while, just to make sure I haven't missed something. The tax due tally is priceless. Good job on it for the last few years. Also, good job on comparison with last year's return at times during the process. Also, I'd add a "Personal Audit" feature at the end and use the Return Summaries for last year and this year with any glaring differences highlighted in this year's summary.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to navigate tax filing sequence.
What's not so great: Some menu items confusing or dumbed down. I am a former ProSeries user and Intuit employee who did PS Tier 1 troubleshoo

Makes the complex simple

As a long-time user of TurboTax, I am impressed how it seems to get even more user-friendly every year. I use it for my returns, as well as for several family members, and from start to finis it seldom takes over an hour with even more involved returns. My confidence level in TurboTax is incredibly high, and I appreciate how they have taken what used to be a pain in the rear and made it something I have come to actually enjoy. Flat out, a terrific product.
What's great about it: Ease of use; clarity of instructions; understandable help a click away

Not as happy this year

I had to purchase two different version this year, not happy about that. Had problems with the MN state return, but was able to find an apply the fix.
Wasted more time than I would like working on issues with the software this year.
Did get the email about a partical refund or online upgrade but by then I had done my taxes on one version and then purchased the other version because I got to the final paperwork and found that selling stock wasn't covered in the same version as previous years.
What's great about it: Still good step by step process
What's not so great: More problems this year than any other, State return problems
