When you put a IRA rollover in the fed form you would think that it would transfer to turbo the state form the same way. That also includes union dues.
That said, I suggest that one go's over their tax form with a microscope.
I would also like it to transfer info from my PFD to turbo form but it does not.
What's great about it: Does the complacated stuff like, ira, stocks bond, est.
What's not so great: Does not transfer all from fed to state.Should have a way to go from were you are in the proscess right to the worksheet

Great as Always

The software has always worked fine year after year. I have used Turbo Tax for over 20 years, and have never had an issue. I do believe there were some improvements that made it easier to do sells of ESOP this year that made it easier to get this correct. Since TX has no State income tax, I cannot comment on the State Taxes. It was efficient and easy to use. My only cons are that it seems costly, and after using it for many years I always wonder if I would get different results if I want to a CPA to have them do my taxes.
What's great about it: Easy to use, especially when you use the product in previous years
What's not so great: Too expensive
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have used intuit since there were separate programs for Mac users (MacinTax) and PC (Windows) users. Never given me a reason to change to another tax program.
What's great about it: Consistant from year to year
What's not so great: Expensive to file state
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I have been a user for several years and usually can follow quite well. I few places I had to use the help - like for stocks and medical - but managed to get through it.
What's great about it: gets me organized and easy to follow
What's not so great: had to buy more expensive version to get schedules I needed

More explanations for part-year residency
on March 21, 2015

When TurboTax generates the information that the states require for part-year residency, it is correct, from what I can tell. But there is no explanation of how the numbers are determined. For example, the federal deductions used, and the breakdown of income, would be nice, along with a reasonable explanation. North Carolina uses a formula that alternately uses total income and the part-year income. It was very confusing. Since TurboTax did not have any explanations, I had to delve into the state tax forms (thru TurboTax, which was actually a plus) and instructions, both of which I try to avoid. That's why I use TurboTax - so that things make sense. If I have to do this leg work, then TurboTax becomes less valuable.
What's great about it: TurboTax takes care of the part-year residency (how many days/months in each state)
What's not so great: There are some important pages that do not have "learn more". I have to analyze the state forms and state instructions.
Pros: I moved
