2015 not up to the same standards as past years
on March 20, 2015

I've been a turbo tax user for many years and have found that it is very intuitive and smooth to use.
This is the first I had to contact the help number to get help with my return. I couldn't get through the first time I tried; I did talk with an agent the second time and she was delightful. I will always have to file in two states and it was a real issue for me this year; both the cost and the hastle getting the software to work. Federal was great and the first state went smoothly. I couldn't pay my fee by credit card and I didn't want to have to call again, so I ended up paying the fee to have it deducted from my bank account. I'm not sure I will use TT next year.
What's great about it: Easy, intuitive navigation
What's not so great: working multiple states was awful; issues displaying select pages

Turbo Deluxe
on March 20, 2015

I have used Turbo Tax Deluxe since 1999. I have always liked Turbo Tax. It has always been easy to use if you know what you are doing. My only complaint now is that they took schedule D for investments (Stocks & Bonds) off the Deluxe program, which I don't think is right. Now I will have to spend more money next year to buy the premier program just so I can have schedule D.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: No Schedule D
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Loose Ends

I felt like I was having to fill in the same questions over and over again every time I wanted to skip to " I'll choose what I work on".
It also gets a bit complicated at the end with paying for taxes owed and getting a payment voucher printed out.
It never did print out the voucher I need to pay the state even though it promised to do just that.
Doesn't recognize my nickname but thinks I'm using someone else's nickname.
What's great about it: Still the best out there but room for improvement
What's not so great: Some redundancy when moving around in the Fed section
Pros: I moved

Good Program

Finally finished my taxes, clicked submit and kept getting an SSL error. Apparently on Macs you need to submit Federal and State separately to connect securely to SSL. Boo. Also I was advised to change a line item in my W-2 by the program when the Live Help as well as my instinct said that would be a bad idea to submit a different number on the tax forms than was on my W-2.
What's great about it: Clear instructions, live help available
What's not so great: Need to fix efile bug, unclear for some errors
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: limited help options

Back & Forth
on March 21, 2015

I have used Turbo for over 15 years. It's relatively easy for someone who knows their income tax laws but not good for a novice. You still need to know what you are doing & why & I do for the most part. I like that the questions are perfectly matched for the issue at hand. But it remains difficult to get back & forth between one area to another such as from the Estimated Tax Forms to the Income areas of the questionnaire. I suggest that the outline be expanded more to show the next area of importance so that one can more easily get back & forth within the outline itself without having to go to the forms portion to find where the comparison format is. It would make life easier. I wasted too much time trying to go in & out of one sector to another. This has always been a problem for Turbo, but I do like that the previous year's info is transferred to the current one for the most part & is used to help with the calculations.
What's great about it: Dealt with our 8606 issues this year of RMDs
What's not so great: Hard to get back to one area after leaving it for another area.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Only "fair" carry over automation
on March 21, 2015

Average tax platform. Completely confused when, after using Turbo Tax for the past 7 years and all copies remain loaded on my computer, why I should ever be directed to go manually look up information or carry over amounts from previous years returns to see if I can enter information on the current return. Turbo tax should be able to go retrieve that information without asking for me to manually look it up.
Ditto on state returns and having to look up state and local tax refund information when Turbo Tax did the previous years filing electronically. At least Turbo Tax should pull up the refund amounts from last years filing and ask for confirmation that the information is correct..
What's great about it: Staightforward, understandable, good links, easy filing
What's not so great: Doesnot carry over amounts of excessive deduction claim amounts from previous years
