TT- Quick, Efficient and Accurate

I have been using TT for about 15 years and its a pleasure to use- very user friendly.
What's great about it: Helpful prompting questions all along.
What's not so great: Hate to think my TT tax payments are going for wasteful gov't spending!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax takes all the worry out of filing taxes-so easy once you have gathered all of your info-Turbotax tells you what to enter, and where :) Also if you use Turbo tax next year it pre enters all the info that it knows from previous years saving a lot of time :)
What's great about it: Makes filing taxes so easy :)
Pros: I moved

Not as good as it use to be.

The 2014 version was much worse than the previous versions. It was less helpful. I had to go to the IRS more often for answers. It was slower. It was harder to load. I will consider going to another company in 2015.
What's great about it: -Pulled information from previous returns. -Still calculates return
What's not so great: -Much harder to find answers.- When answers were found they were brief- Had a feeling of being lost- slower

Spoiled an Excellent Relationship

I have been a Turbo Tax user for almost as many years as there has been a Turbo Tax. I have always gotten what I paid for. With my wife and I being retired, on Social Security, a homeowner and no state taxes the process was always a slam dunk. This year, that changed. We have mineral rights on a piece of property in Texas that pays us a small amount of money each year. We get a 1099 MISC. We handle it as income. Turbo Tax Basic will no longer handle that. Additionally, because our 1099 MISC describes the payment as a royalty, one of the instructions in Turbo Tax kept pushing toward a Schedule C requirement. We are not a business. I spent over 3 hours mostly on hold trying to resolve the issue. I would have returned the software if I could have but I could not get my money back since the package was opened. After being upgraded to Deluxe and then to Premier and then a chat with one of your tax experts the problem was resolved and I could do my EASY taxes. I guess next year it will be some other tax program or I'll go back to doing paper forms after more than 20 some odd years.
What's great about it: the usual memory jogging questions
What's not so great: changes in functionality. big change in final cost.

Estimated Taxes Need Revisions
on March 20, 2015
Posted by: TaxLiving
The software in general is very good. I, however, was unable to find the ability to override the estimated taxes that were automatically calculated. This year was an anomaly as I had sold investments that generated a gain. I know I will not have to pay this amount in taxes next year. However, being retired I do need to calculate an amount of estimates to pay in. The software does not allow the ability to estimate my income for next year to calculate proper estimates. If it does offer this feature, it was impossible to find on the Federal tabs. As such, I am forced to go online and print blank federal forms to send in the proper estimates since the ones automatically generated by the software are much too high.
What's great about it: Offers good help features for those whom are unfamiliar
What's not so great: Automatic calculation of estimated taxes
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy to Use
on March 20, 2015

I use TurboTax Deluxe every year. The Deluxe vs Premier debacle this year was really disappointing and distracting. I'm counting on Deluxe continuing to have the forms its always had. If not, I'll be disappointed to leave Turbotax, because I think it's a great product, but I will.
Nice clear interface. Easy to access the forms as you work. Explanations seem clearer every year. Nice improvements.
What's great about it: Copies from Prior Year, easy to use, clear, quick.
What's not so great: None

Been using Turbotax for many years and have had no problems in filing. If you can follow instructions and have the required docs, there should be no problem.
What's great about it: Easy to follow, efficient, professional
What's not so great: None
