Fed vs State
on March 20, 2015

Lack of state step-by-step required me to do a lot of researce on my own. Not helpful.
What's great about it: Fed step-by-step walk through
What's not so great: State return lacks the detailed step-by-step walk through detail.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

It's done

Until 2013, I was a business owner. I retired in late 2013. For 2014, even though I did not purchase the business edition, Turbo Tax (TT) kept asking me business questions about vehicle usage. It would not accept "no entry" as a response. I finally had to answer the questions as best I could w/o being misleading; otherwise TT wouldn't let me file. I found the section on foreign tax credit to be unnecessarily confusing. I downloaded my investment information from my broker so why couldn't TT use it to figure the foreign tax credit? I had to do it by hand. Not a huge problem but my purpose in using TT was to eliminate hassle. I swear every year I won't use TT again but I always do. Maybe next year....
What's great about it: fairly easy, organized, mostly clear instructions, easy filing
What's not so great: would not accept some answers, infrequent confusion
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I have used TurboTax and its previous versions for over 20 years.
SDRa
What's great about it: Data entry into and transmission of Federal and State forms are easy with TurboTax!
What's not so great: Only once did SDRa need to manually enter data directly into Schedule B!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Best For Windows/Mac Only
on March 20, 2015

The 2014 Turbotax was as easy as ever to fill out (I have used it for 3 years now.
BUT, I upgraded my desktop computer from archaic Windows to Ubuntu Linux. And even though I made Linux create a Windows 7 emulator, and was able to run Turbo Tax for both Federal and State Returns, when it came time to print out the returns I had to jump through hoops to create an Adobe.pdf utility.
In your error statement it said to use either Adobe or Fixit. Next year - since the world is getting beyond Windows OR costly Apple - and more and more turning to public domain Linux (Unix on steroids) I recommend you put Fixit, if not Adobe downloadable modules right into Turbotax. AND, if needed, advertise and support Linux, besides Windows and Mac in your sales.
Doing my Federal and State Taxes were fast and easy. Printing them out, either separately, or after efiling was hard and very time consuming.
What's great about it: Excellent as in past for calculating and displaying results
What's not so great: I had many problems getting an Acrobat PDF file for Printing
Pros: I bought or sold investments

It could be BETTER!

Nearly every major part of a return is listed in a group on one page. For instance, when you start on income, there are several items such as W-2, several 1099's etc. Each time you finish with one type of item, you return to the top of the previous screen. By the time you are nearly through you may have had to scroll past most of the screen several times. If you were returned to where you branched to an entry screen, you could just continue up or down as you need.
What's great about it: Accuracy & Help is readily available
What's not so great: The amount of scrolling is a pain.
Pros: I moved

I tried a different tax program a few years ago and returned to TurboTax the following year. Can't be much simpler for a retiree. No complicated calculations this year.
What's great about it: Step by step handholding makes it easy every year
What's not so great: None this year
