Tax Review 2014
on March 18, 2015

I found it very helpful to compare the previous year's counts with this year's to determine if I left out something. Turbo Tax does that automatically. Turbo Tax does a very good job on some rough tasks such as itemizing cost basis and and sell price with a breakdown of which boxes are checked (Cost basis reported to IRS etc.). It would be wonderful to have a link to the state/city forms to help with confusing items such as if my wife's IRA is deductible for the city tax. If there is a link, I could not find it. The Federal return is well organized. It would help if some of the state fields showed where the value was derived from on the Federal return. I found that state income tax refund from the previous year state was not deducted on the state return but I entered it on the Federal return. I guess it was because the Federal return did not use itemized deductions but I wish it were clearer.
What's great about it: I am able to break down a relatively complicated form into small pieces that I can complete with no professional aid.
What's not so great: I was not able to get help for questions on the state form and the Detroit form.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

TurboTax makes filing a return as easy as it can be. I appreciate being able to download information from investment accounts so that I don't have to type in all those numbers.
What's great about it: Problems with the form were fixed to my satisfaction.
What's not so great: Questions of which form to buy caused much confusion.

2014 Premier Review

The result at the end showed a larger refund due than after initiating the filing process. Could not retrieve any information about this difference. Then when continuing the e-filing, I was only charged the state e-filing rate. I'm still confused about what the final results will be. Maybe a itemized statement should be shown at the end; just before pressing the final filing icon, explaining all the charges and differences.
What's great about it: Relatively simple to follow
What's not so great: When filing it was confusing about refund amounts.

Been away form TT for a few years, decided to dump my high priced CPA and go back. Program worked well. Learned a few things. Import of brokerage and W2 info was excellent.
When entering my e-mail to file state, I messed it up and after correcting it TT continued to disallow my correct addresses. After a few tried I finally got it by making both email windows totally blank, hitting continue and then filling them in again when it rejected them.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Had problems electronic filing
