Efficient Tool

The software worked well this year with two exceptions.
1. It is not intuitive how to import data from financial institutions.
2. Import of data from USAA was clugey at best.
3. No option for saving of a pdf version of the returns. I prefer to save copy to my hard drive and to a cd.
What's great about it: It almost all worked well
What's not so great: no option for copying a pdf version of the return to a CD
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Make the product better

THe program should be modified as follows:
1. When viewing forms - you should be able to click thru and go to the entry in Turbotax that generated the value (and vis verse)
2. Greater tutoring on tax subjects should be available. How hard would it be to have a Stanford Professor teach about the sale of a rental property, recapturing passive activity losses and describing whether replacement of carpet to sell a rental is an expense of sale or expense of rental. The help menus are worthless.
3. Also, got a virus this year and wiped my prior tax files. Intuit should sell a service to archive returns.
I'll buy again, but there is just so much more potential with your product. It could be great.
What's great about it: Fast and Cheap
What's not so great: Little help if stuck...
Pros: I bought or sold investments

The product worked well and I was happy with the ease of use. That is why I have been a user from the beginning of Turbotax.
The change that was made to split the product at the low end with out letting us know did not sit well with me. it is also confusing how they expected to convence us to keep using the product in the future.
What's great about it: It was detailed and the program worked according to my expectations.
What's not so great: That they changed the version I had to buy without letting me know or expect a change in the way they did business. I ho
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

This is the best TurboTax ever!

I have been using TurboTax for many years. My returns are complicated (114 pages) because I trade stocks... a lot. This was the easiest tax prep ever. The downloads of the consolidated 1099's from my four brokers were seamless (and I checked every entry.) You have eliminated every problem I ever had with TurboTax, and believe me, I reported every one... every year. You have really been listening to the feedback you received. A very strong "Congratulations!!!" to your entire team. I will not hesitate to tell others and to use it next year.
What's great about it: Easy to setup, quick, straight forward, and does not crash
What's not so great: I can't think of any cons. Good for you! You have been listening to your feedback. Bravo!!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy to use, but pricey

This review is for the software version of TurboTax Premier, not the online version.
General impression: This is perfect for someone who doesn't like or care about the details of tax laws and just wants to fill in the tax forms painlessly. The questions are easy to understand and are not too wordy (like some other tax prep software). If there's any ambiguity, TurboTax often gives real-life situations as examples of what may or may not qualify to be claimed. This is especially helpful for those who are new to tax filing.
My favorite parts: The import feature of bank/brokerage documents is the best of all the software I've tried (H&R, TaxAct). TurboTax doesn't round numerical values as much as I've noticed some other software does, which allows for greater accuracy IMO. I also like the Forms view where I can see how all the tax forms will look before they're filed. (This is only available in the CD/download version of TurboTax. It's a shame it's not available in the online version because this is a great way to double/triple check for errors.)
What I didn't like so much: If you've done your taxes before, have all your documents organized, and know exactly what you need to fill out, then TurboTax doesn't have the most efficient navigation menu to get you to the forms you need. Even though you can jump to the whole list of possible income (for example), filling out one category (like a 1099-DIV) takes at least 3 screens. It would be nice if you could just click on the category you need (e.g. 1099-DIV) and be able to fill out everything in one screen. Admittedly, the one-by-one interview process is what makes TurboTax so appealing in the first place; but it's a waste of time and can be annoying for those who know what they're doing.
Overall: Great product if you're willing to pay the really expensive price and are intimidated by tax filing. For those who know what they're doing, I'd recommend this over other similar products just because of the great import function and less rounding of numbers.
What's great about it: easy to use, real life examples with explanations of tax laws, import features
What's not so great: very expensive, not always the most efficient navigation
Pros: I bought or sold investments
