Fed Excellent, State Ho-Hum

As usual, TurboTax handling of my federal return was superb. For several recent years I have tried to make the state return work with TurboTax but encountered minor problems such as no apparent way to credit refund to next year's taxes. In the past it has only screwed up the info used by the federal return so this year I did not even bother with state returns under TurboTax and filed it manually instead. No big deal.
What's great about it: Federal Return Handling Excellent
What's not so great: State Return Handling Vague

The Premier Version is the best if you have investments in Retirement accounts, and or interest from bank accounts.
What's great about it: 8 hours to complete - every year it gets easier
What's not so great: there is not much that I did not like

Easy to Use

Turbo Tax needs to show a check list of what you have already reviewed. If there are 9 items in a subset, when you finish an item, the system brings you back up to item 1 and you have to scroll down to what you have to review next. This has been a consistent design flaw. You need to show what has already been reviewed via a check box and leave the un-reviewed sections open. The scrolling is awful. Please fix this.
What's great about it: Easy to Use
What's not so great: Too much scrolling

Easiest program ever and it seems to get easier each year as it learns your prior year's return. I only wish my data gathering and organizing went as quickly as completing my returns. I guess it's time to learn to use Quicken and really make things easy each time I prepare my tax return.
What's great about it: Step-byStep. It never misses asking all of the questions that apply to my return. Maximum return always a sure bet!
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

My manual figures, which I feel are correct, do not match up with yours. The questions are confusing. Sometimes, I think my TurboTax disc is incorrect.

TT always make tax time easy

I've been using TT for about 15 years and have not been disappointed. The tax filing gets easier each year with each new TT edition. The online help is great.
What's great about it: Carry over from previous year, guides me through the process, gets better every year

Always gets me the big refund

I've been using TurboTax for over a decade. Having firsthand knowledge of tax impacting activities in my life, I sift through my records taking far more time and paying far more attention to detail than a paid professional ever would. I have rental property income that stacks with my salary, so offsetting my gross income with every deduction and expense I can is essential. TurboTax allows me to do this, reducing my tax liability by tens of thousands each year. I highly recommend taking ownership of your own tax liability armed with TurboTax, unless you like Uncle Sam taking and spending your hard earned money.
