Don't over pay your taxes

I found it hard to go back and review/change some of the entries, during the final review program.
Overall, I loved using Turbo Tax
What's great about it: Even, I could go through the program
What's not so great: I found it hard to go back and review toward the end.

Easy and methodical for family use
on March 15, 2015

When you have a family including working teens and college students, this puts it all in one package. 5 e-files included for the cost. wish they could include a state e file for free. Unfortunately, this means we have to go back into the state's on-line system to take advantage of free e-file.
What's great about it: 5 e-files included.
What's not so great: Should inlude a state e-file for no added cost
Pros: I bought or sold investments

My 2014 return
on March 15, 2015

Overall very good, but stupid errors should be reported as you enter the data, not at the end. Also I deleted the use of my car years ago fo going to the homes I rent, yet they appear every year and somehow I can not get rid of it.
What's great about it: Still good step by step
What's not so great: Why not explain and catch error as the data is entered rather than at the end
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Using Turbo Tax is good, but could be better
on March 15, 2015

Using Turbo Tax is great, because it keeps track of pertinent data from the previous year, and it handles tricky tax situations, like rentals, easily. On the other hand, it could have made several tax situations I faced this year less time consuming. (Went through a considerable amount of hassle to look up stuff that did not result in a change in my taxes.) It also could have made some of those situations easier to understand.
What's great about it: Keeps track of the past, handles tricky taxes easily
What's not so great: Could have made some areas easier and easier to understand

Does the Job at a Fair Price

I did 3 of my teenage children's returns as well as my own this year. Worked great for setting up and e-filing for kids and navigating all of the college credits.
Our situation is more complicated and time consuming. The most time consuming parts are charitable contributions and 1099-Bs for security sales. Their companion It's Deductible.com does a great job of keeping our philanthropy organized during the year to make this manageable. I continue to use this software
As with any software, if you put garbage in you get garbage out. Most of my questions had been asked by others in their generally helpful Wiki. Even if they didn't have an answer, I knew I wasn't going crazy.
My biggest peeve was that some of the advertised import partners didn't work while others did. While TurboTax cannot control this entirely, perhaps they could monitor the links and their own import menu so that non-functioning partners are not shown. It is your reputation and brand at work.
On the state tax returns, I don't see as much value. We have local income taxes which Turbotax purports to support, but it really doesn't other than filling in the form. I don't expect them to create a system for my municipality, but I just don't get a lot of value out of paying them for the state tax filing.
It's relative ease of use, and the import features from both the prior year info and from the partners keeps me coming back rather than seeing if the grass is greener with another vendor.
What's great about it: Gets everything in right place. It's Deductible.com is awesome. Import features from last year and various partners.
What's not so great: Several of the imports from partners were not working timely or at all; state tax filing not a good value
Pros: I bought or sold investments

time saved on a long laborious process

I have used TTax for many years and I like how it imports from previous years and keeps the information from year to year.
It would be nice when using the walk through wizard to be able to check a box "return to this part for additional review" and then be able to return to the various parts of the wizard where I need to update with additional information.
What's great about it: efficient walk through
What's not so great: had to start over
Pros: I bought or sold investments

A Little disappointed

Turbo Tax was not helpful at all when trying to understand what the state wanted on the schedules
What's great about it: Federal part was good
What's not so great: State part was dispappointing

Disgruntled
on March 15, 2015

Should have told me this little tid-bit of information last year when I signed up for auto-renew. I have been using TT for 15 years and you have turned against your company with this little twist. Not sure if I'll use you next year, leaning towards not. I certainly did not sign up for auto-renew.
What's not so great: Having to Upgrade because I sold a house
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
