Tough Year for Taxes
on March 13, 2015
Posted by: Marcuh
I just resubmitted my taxes after getting rejected for an incorrect PIN for both my wife and me. I thought I could use an old one, but needed to get a new one or use a more recent one, I don't know which. I think the program should alert you to what is required. On the bright side, the rejection help from the program gave me all I needed to fix the problem, I think!! I am still waiting for the acceptance.
I have no other complaints with the program.
What's great about it: Premier took care of my house sale
What's not so great: Got rejected because of not getting a new PIN - should have been warned.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Solid Product that makes general tax filing easy
on March 13, 2015

Overall, I am a big fan of TurboTax. I've been using computerized tax filing programs for about 25 years...back in the days of DOS and way before eFiling was offered.
TurboTax frees me from the mundane and confusing tasks that are part of many tax forms. Generally, information is entered once and carried forward to all forms where it is needed. IRS and State instructions that can sometimes be complex or confusing are all handled by TurboTax.
My two complaints are:
1. Income Annualization is difficult at the Federal level and not even offered for my home state.
2. Bugs are difficult to report. Lots of digging and discovering on the website just to get to a phone call. Not at all intuitive (pun intended).
What's great about it: Drudgery Handled for me!
What's not so great: State Income Annualization not supported, hard to report bugs
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Mixed Results
on March 13, 2015

My state penalizes joint filers who both have incomes which in most years results in us filing separate federal and state returns. I used TT last year to prepare returns both ways (joint and married filing separately). We filed separately. This year we are filing jointly and I only used TT to figure the joint returns. Your program erroneously went back to last years joint return, which was not filed, to pick up data to carry forward to this years return. I had to find my way back into some of the detail forms and override some data. TT should confirm what the prior year filing status was before proceeding with current year returns. And it would really be helpful if TT helped decide which filing status would be best.
What's great about it: Prints forms and e file
What's not so great: Doesn't help decide best filing status

2014 Turbo Tax software
on March 13, 2015
Posted by: Lee2233
I have used Intuit software from the beginning. I was displeased to find out I had the wrong version ordered but pleased that the up grade was free, I like the familiar system every year. This years seemed easier to edit the deduction lists and information.
I was puzzled as to why last years Fed Tax refund was listed as income. I finally broke into the form and manually deleted it. Otherwise it is what I expected and needed in all respects.
What's great about it: Organized way to input data. Helps me to get info together through out the year.
What's not so great: Insisted that last years fed income tax return was taxable income. H
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good, reliable product with some deficiencies
on March 13, 2015

I like the product but I experienced two deficiencies that I think are worth correcting. First, I think it is crazy to rely on the "community" for answers to tax questions. Why should I take tax advice from anyone other than a tax professional? To me, this is only an attempt by Intuit to avoid dedicating paid resources to really answering questions. To answer several questions, I did research on my own on the IRS website which I would like to avoid. Second, I would really like to be able to estimate next year's taxes using the results of this year's filings (use this year's carryovers, etc.) and my estimates of income and deductions for next year. I realize no one really knows the details of next year's tax regulations, but an estimate is valuable even if it simply assumes the continuation of current tax law.
What's great about it: Easy to enter and organize data and file returns
What's not so great: Advice from the "community" not that helpful...no way to estimate next year's taxes
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Concerned
on March 13, 2015
Posted by: Omyit
Have used program for many years. The minimal information and guidance available for completing state returns has always been a concern. Had a state return rejected twice due to missing data that should have transferred from the Federal return. At a minimum the state review should have caught the missing data.
Safety is becoming a real concern. Seriously considering reverting back to mailing my returns.
What's great about it: Good guidance for completing Federal return
What's not so great: Guidance for state returns seems weak.

Is this what I am to expect next year from Intuit? I buy a box of TurboTax Deluxe and get a box of TT not-so-deluxe?
Then ,what about security? Am I going to have to worry my information is floating around the Internet, next year?
What's great about it: Generally simple and easy to use
What's not so great: Removed forms from Deluxe and expected me to upgrade to get the from I've used in the past!
Pros: I bought or sold investments
