big problem

I was unable to file my MFJ federal taxes and my MFS state. I had to use the mail, after I paid for the right to efile!! There has to be a way to "merge" federal joint and state MFS. Virginia is a tuff state, perhaps Turbo Tax needs to work with them.
What's great about it: federal return ran well as well as directions
What's not so great: State taxes!!!!!!

Had to Pay

Turbo Tax is easy to load and use. Take advantage of the import feature and the "Learn More" supplements - some valuable information is provided. I also like the review features that check for accuracy, completeness, and audit flags, if any. My major gripe is my wish that the state return e-filing fee be waived - it seems pricey and unnecessary, although the convenience is certainly there.
What's great about it: Easy to use; liked the import feature
What's not so great: Slow to update, state e-file should be included
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

More Cumbersome Each Year

Each year, TurboTax becomes more buggy and harder for me to use.
This year, it insisted that a pension be handled as an annuity when it was 100% paid by the employer.
It also handles Railroad Retirement very poorly.
Unless you know what you are doing, complex taxes will really get messed up using TurboTax's interview.
What's great about it: Has all the forms
What's not so great: Forms sometime fail to update

Done Well

Very easy to complete questions as it leads you through the various areas. But you can always look at the forms if you want.
Rental properties were included in the Deluxe version last year but this year required an upgrade which was free but wasn't expected.
What's great about it: Easy. Answer questions or use form.
What's not so great: Rental properties no longer included in Deluxe version

Crazy, Confusing, Capital Gains

We sold a rental property last year and figuring out the cost basis/capital gains/loss was a complete pain. This area of turbo tax was not very intuitive and does not provide enough explanation of the information needed. After spending 8 hours trying to muddle through this, I finally "phoned a friend" at Turbotax support. The initial screener was not able to help with the problem, so she had a CPA call me back. Kris was awesome! She spent over 4 hours with me as we worked through systems issues, reviewed what I had entered and helped me correct it. She was funny and managed to keep me smiling instead of crying through all of the frustrations.
What's great about it: Expert tax help ROCKED!
What's not so great: Rental and Royalty section does not adequately explain how to capture items.

Third Time's a Charm

This was our 3rd yr of using Turbotax and it's so easy a novice like me has no trouble with our State and Federal returns

I think your basic home package should include forms to cover income from dividends and stock sale gains and losses.
What's great about it: Makes a painful task somewhat less painful
What's not so great: On the review kept asking for information, but not providing enough information to tell me what information I needed to

TurboTax does the job!!

I've used Turbo Tax for years and it does the job for me and my family and friends. I've never found an error on a return, find that it's easy to enter data and more importantly, it's easy to modify data. Reports, forms and worksheets are exactly what we need.
In a nutshell, Turbo Tax does the job and I appreciate that!
What's great about it: Easy to enter data and easy to make changes.
