Too much scrolling and clicking (click stream analysis would help).
What's great about it: UI is actually very friendly to use.
What's not so great: Status of each section requires scrolling down. Append at beginning to avoid scrolling.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

No de minimis Safe Harbor Statement
on March 8, 2015

I was very frustrated that there was no way to select the newly-required de minimis safe harobr election for a small rental business. I buy Turbo Tax Premier for the depreciation, and everyone who depreciates should now make this election, due to new regulations. The only way that I can make the election is to mail in my return because the election must be submitted with the return. Therefore, the e-file option is no longer available to me, as I will need to make this election each year. It is a one sentence statement. Please add it to next year's Premier edition, or any addition that covers depreciation for a business on Schedule C or E. Very disappointing that I have to mail my return!
What's not so great: The e-file option is not available it you depreciate assets for a business.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Used Turbo Tax

this is probably the 10th year we've used Turbo Tax and we still like it. No problems with the software. Handled Mineral Rights payments, Stock option transactions, etc. with no issues.
What's great about it: Import feature - brought in our last year's return info easily
What's not so great: Still had to pay for our State E-File (19.99)
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Pay for state
on March 8, 2015
Posted by: Frustr8ed
There are way too many boxes from which to choose and they all look the same. Why would anyone buy federal without the state returns. Some years we have the state, some years we don't. There has got to be an easier way to buy turbo tax.
What's not so great: I ENDED UP PAYING EXTRA FOR STATE

Thanks for making this chore a bit easier

Wish there was a cheaper/simpler prep software, After all the records I kept it didn't matter because the result was standard deductions. But that happened last year. I knew it would and would have just checked off standard deductions. Was it really worth all the time to keep records and to add them all together and fill out the forms only to see that it was a waste of time?
What's great about it: Pulling info from 2013's tax return cut my prep time in half
What's not so great: Family sold mineral right; there was not enough explanation about how to correctly file state forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

WHEW IT'S OVER FOR A YEAR ~ THX TO TURBOTAX
on March 8, 2015

Preparing taxes is brutal, so no way i'll ever like it. My feeling is no problem paying taxes, but the IRS should have to figure out what we owe....
Turbo Tax is what I've used the last 4 years, as accurate as any of the CPAs I've used who don't refund me their large fee when the IRS finds their errors.
I apparently needed the Premium version this year, and in the midst of preparation, they dowloaded it free and quickly, what a nice bonus to not make me stop and thing much about it.
What's great about it: LET ME WALK THRU WHAT I KNOW, WALKS ME THRU WHAT I DON'T
What's not so great: HAVE TO MAKE ENTRIES ONTO FED 1040 TO TRIGGER QUESTIONS IN OREGON RETURN

My experience this year with TurboTax
on March 8, 2015

TurboTax makes our life much easier at tax time. I upgraded to 'Investments & Rental Property, Premier' this year and it worked better than any other version that I had used in well over 10 years of using TurboTax. This year, more than before, I was able to avoid many questions by checking to see what I did last year.
What's great about it: I love to compare last year's figures with this years. When I go back data doesn't disappear like it used to.
What's not so great: TurboTax doesn't ask whether I paid estimated taxes and what they were. I had to go online to figure that out.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
