I use TurboTax every year. Some years, like this one, I needed to file an 83(b) Election with my return. This is just a PDF that could easily be added to all the other forms. But TurboTax does not allow this.
As a result, I was not able to e-file and had to manually print the return to paper and add the 83(b) paper form on top, and file by mail.
Can't believe that in the internet era TurboTax lacks this basic ability to attach a PDF file and file it electronically along with the rest of the TurboTax-produced forms.
Almost made me want to switch to TaxAct, which allows PDF attachements.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Can't attach additional information required by IRS

E-File 2014 Tax returns Rejected
on March 7, 2015

Turbotax reps tried to help me E-File but Schedule D matters prevented acceptance. Only explanation seems that Turbotax Premier download for MAC does not allow adequate space I used individual lots to report Sch.D items-suggest you increase space so E file is not rejected.for returns with many Schedule D entries-.
What's great about it: Data entry easy for 2014- Federal and State
What's not so great: E-file rejected Federal and State
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Have used Turbo for several years and loved it. If you upgrade your OS again next year I probably will not be able to use TurboTax again as I am not going to buy a new laptop just for taxes.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions
What's not so great: Did not know the program needed a newer OS system than was on my laptop

Still like Turbo Tax

Turbo Tax asks the right questions to make it easy to complete. Actually recommended it to some recent college graduates (first year filing as non-dependents) and it worked well for them.
Just wish that Turbo Tax would remember the previous year/s deductions for college deductions (American Opportunity,...). Need to retain all previous years taxes and go back and look at them. Since we've used Turbo Tax for years, believe the program should be able to track/trend that on it's own. Also would be nice to carryover Capital Losses from previous years.
What's great about it: Steps me through the process
What's not so great: Doesn't bring everything forward from last year/s
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

2014 Handling Capital Gains
on March 7, 2015

This was the first year requiring handling of Capital Gains. With MANY transactions to report on form 8949, I sought a work around. The TT Community made one suggestion and it was okay for a mailed return but not for e-file. The .com help? Well, it was a bit of a pain getting the phone number and when called, I was referred to an expert. It took only 10 minutes to get my problem resolved. e-file went the next day. Now waiting to see if my returns are accepted! Overall, having used TT for over 15 years and this being the first for Cap Gains, I'm very happy..
What's great about it: The .com help was phoned. In 20 minutes my problem was resolved
What's not so great: TT program help provided no help at all
Pros: I bought or sold investments
