Great Product Costs Too Much

I have used Intuit’s automatic renewal for years, but I’m bailing. TurboTax is already expensive compared to every other tax product, but now it’s even more expensive because I’m forced to upgrade to Premium just to handle my investment income. H&R Block gave me a free copy of their product and I’ll go with them next year. If the price comes down enough, I’ll be back. Until then, good-bye TurboTax.

Great tax program

The step by step questions make doing taxes as painless as possible.
What's great about it: Automatic uploads of W-2 and brokerage statements
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Explanations are nearly non-existant

Explanations for anything more complicated than a 1040ez are very difficult to come by. I had to keep going to IRS publications to understand why the program had done things. Turbo Tax seems to be designed for people who don't care to know the why of things. This is especially true for the coordination of NY state taxes. I really should have just did it myself on paper.
What's great about it: On surface it seems easy
What's not so great: Anything other than a 1040EZ is difficult

Deceptive version changes

Very disappointed that I had to upgrade Deluxe version when in the past I did not have to do so even with the same information. Very deceptive change and must be pointed out more clearly at time of purchase. If this is not fixed I will switch programs next year

TurboTax Premier

I normally use TurboTax deluxe, but this year I was forced to spend extra money and buy TurboTax premier because Intuit removed forms from TurboTax deluxe that I normally file.
What's great about it: No problems, clear and concise.
What's not so great: Had to use Premier instead of Deluxe that I normally use.
