Great Experience

I have used TurboTax for many years, this year I sold my primary residence and wondered if I could do my taxes myself. No problem! TurboTax guided me through everything.
I like the direct download of my 1099-DIV info from the financial institutions which I could not do in the past. Without this I could not have done this 2014 Tax return.

Need to be able to alphabetize names of Charities
What's great about it: most instructions are clear

Fed Great - State so-so

The NJ state tax forms have exclusions for state pensioners whre that pensioner can deduction (over 3 years) the amt they contributed into the pension fund from the amt they received - I could not get this into the state return from turbo-tax!!
What's great about it: fed was easy
What's not so great: State did not match my records wrt pension exclusions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

E-file rejected twice. Turned out to be not getting or filling out spouse new number. Not very clear on that. Did not have to enter those new pin numbers so I didn't know if I did it correctly. This is first time I had trouble with program. Carryover losses were not in deluxe edition and had to import Premier at no charge. Should keep it in deluxe also. Did not see any comparisons of how my taxes ranked with the general public.

I really said it all in Pros. The software is well done. It is always up-to-date. The instructions are easy to follow. I appreciated the free update to Premier this year.

Used for years But...

My return should take a couple of hours. It takes several days because I have to find and fix data errors with account numbers, PINs and personal data. Some repeat year after year and some are new or one time. It is like an abusive situation, you have to double check everything. There seems to be no interest in finding and fixing these issues because there is no way to report them.
What's great about it: I think is almost impossible to do even a simple return manually.
What's not so great: Short comings cause extra time to review and find errors that should not be there! It is very hard to project next year
