Easy FIling

I like using TurboTax because it keeps track of everything from previous filings and queries me accordingly. It makes sure I don't leave anything out. It is fast, efficient and easy to use. Only in some instances are there items that can be confusing, but that's more of an IRS issue than anything else.
What's great about it: Everything is covered
What's not so great: Some of the items can be confusing if you're not an accountant

Stumped by 8606

The step by step process for entering traditional and roth ira information didn't work for me. It kept telling me I owed taxes for an ira distribution even though I didn't. After many hours of frustration, I took my computer to a CPA who worked manually on the 8606 to get the correct (no tax due) result. I of course had to pay the CPA for her time.
What's not so great: The step by step dialogue for traditional and roth ira's didn't work for me

I have been using TurboTax since 1990 and have never found any problems with it! Only thing I wasn't able to do was to download my information from my broker (UBS) which forced me to spend a little more time manually entering the information.
What's great about it: Step-by-step leads you through the process while Forms allows you to quickly go back and review specific items.
What's not so great: Very few! Banking info should auto-populate to the state returns from the federal.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

good with one glaring exception

I made a mistake in entering the health care details for my Mass form HC. I corrected it on the form, but the program made me cancel the overide before I could submit it, so I had to cancel the override and submit an incorrect form.
This will be most annoying if it holds up the processing of my Massuchusetts refund
What's great about it: Good import, user friendly
What's not so great: Override Feature is pointless and time consuming.

printing options not adequate
on March 6, 2015

The pin instructions were confusing. I applied for a new pin and then found that last year's pin appeared in the return.
I want a record of what medical expenses I submitted; how can I print out just that info? and charitable donations without all the info, just the list.
What's great about it: Walk through makes it easy for me.
What's not so great: I would like to print specific screens e,g, the one screen with all my chairitable donations.

I used turbotax for years and was a little worried this year because there was a lot of bad press about the changes. I didn't have a problem because I already use the premier version, so the price for me was comparable to previous years.
I still like this software, It's really nice that it imported the figures from my investment house. My whole process went very smoothly. I put price issues in cons because I had to put something in there, but Turbo Tax sure beats paying a CPA hundreds of dollars to do taxes. Bottom line- Turbo Tax is worth it.
What's great about it: automatic transfer of files and figures
What's not so great: a little pricier than other tax software
Pros: I bought or sold investments

A little disappointed!

I had to upgrade to the Premier version as I had an Investment Income; I had to call in the purchase and was on hold for 20 minute; then was surprised to learn there was no charge. Also, at the end of the process, I learned about the "hidden fees" for filing state return AND the filing process fees. I have filed with the state before on my own and it was "free". It took a while to do my taxes and I was tired, so I agreed to the "fees" somewhat out of frustration.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions
What's not so great: Hidden fees at the end
