Turbo Tax and Cdn Pensions
on March 3, 2015

You need to add better guidelines in how one should handle Canadian Gov't pensions eg Cdn gov't pensions are handled as though they are US Social Security therefor you need to incorporate this into the SSA 1099 guide. Also Canadian pensions from a Canadian source paid to US resident whereby taxes have been withheld and paid to the Canadian Federal Gov't needs to be addressed. My understanding is this would be filed as a 1099 leaving the tax column blank and provide a written explanation on form 4852 stipulating that taxes have been paid (amount) and reference publication 597 article 18. This needs to be verified and added into your program
What's great about it: For the most part Turbo Tax does a good job
What's not so great: The negative is that Turbo tax does not provide good guidelines when it comes to handling Canadian pensions

When I had trouble pulling up last years data when using an online return through Vanguard, your telephone representative gave me a down loadable return and talked me though installation - excellent customer service. It will keep me coming back for many years.
What's great about it: Showing me what I did last year helped this years entries.
What's not so great: Need the ability to increase font size

Tried and Tested Turbotax
on March 3, 2015

Turbo Tax has remained consistently clear for the user but the new Finbar regulations, that admittedly are not used widely, are not yet given sufficient coverage and the Forms are not a part of the Turbo Tax program.
Overall I still remain a committed user and FAN !
What's great about it: You can skip the walk through interview and go to the "meat".
What's not so great: Needs a clearer indication that Tax Credits for the working Poor are not going to be claimed as a deduction and a Credit

I have been using turbo tax forever and this was the first year I had so many problems. I called numerous times to get the same issue fixed and finally got it fixed. Every time I called the person I spoke with was kind, courteous and did their best to help me. I'm hoping next year I have better luck.
What's great about it: Extremely helpful support team!
What's not so great: Lots of problems this year with state and change to premier.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Schedule K-1 data entry for 1040 filing
on March 3, 2015

The form should be used so that the data on Form 1120S (Fed) and 100S (CA) would be transferred box by box.
What's not so great: Confusing

OK, but not super user friendly

This is my 3rd year for using TT and I'm a retired IRS employee, so I'm pretty comfortable with terms and forms. The interview is quite helpful, but to me the most frustrating piece is trying to make corrections during the review and locating the proper Worksheet, then moving back to your original place in completing the 1040. Better guidance on backing up and securely saving work in progress or completed returns would be helpful.
What's great about it: Tutorials are quite good
What's not so great: moving around in the program is not intuitive

I have used T T for over 20 years I think and have not been sorry. Each year seems to be easier to use
What's great about it: easy to use even when I enter everything myself.
What's not so great: Sorry I had to upgrade at mid stream.
