What did INTUIT DO TO MOST TURBOTAX DELUXE USERS
on March 1, 2015

I'VE USED TURBOTAX DELUXE FOR YEARS. THIS YEAR DELUXE WOULD NOT FILE INVESTMENTS. NEXT YEAR I'LL USE H&R BLOCK IF NOT CORRECTED!
What's not so great: HAD TO UPGRADE TO PREMIER EDITION
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Easy Refund

I have used Turbo Tax for several years now. It makes doing my own taxes easy. I can just go through the screens and enter my information. It even shows what I entered in the previous year so I don't forget something. If I have all my tax documents together I can do my taxes in under an hour. I can import tax documents from my employer, banks and investment company. It is easy to enter in my rental property information and it does all the calculations for you. Cons: If you have questions about a subject some topics have less information than others. I have had to go to an accountant in the past to get specific questions answered.
What's great about it: Walks me through the process, easy
What's not so great: The help could be improved.

Relatively Smooth

Given the complexity of the tax code our government has blessed us with, TurboTax offers a fairly pain free, although time consuming, way to complete your federal/state obligations.
What's great about it: Autofills info. from previous year, easy fill-in-the-blank procedure
What's not so great: No way to see actual forms until entire procedure is completed

2014 Tax Return
on March 1, 2015

I upgraded this year from Basic to Premier in order to figure sale and cost basis of common stock from many years past. Premier was right-on in helping find cost basis that had not been recorded. I would recommend TurboTax to anyone doing their own taxes.
What's great about it: Premier was easy to follow, detailed for investments, and thorough for completion.
What's not so great: None at this time.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great product and service for a lousy tax code.
What's great about it: walked through everything step by step. Easy cheesy!
What's not so great: Little wonky when putting info in for two houses
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

I did not like how the software required home and business edition once expenses exceeded $100. Should have simply directed me to a fillable form and asked me if I wanted a guide.
An additional purchase is understandable but should allow for the DIY type. e.g. a small business owner!
What's great about it: Automatically finds last year's return and updates personal info and other data
What's not so great: Doesn't allow you to navigate areas without upgrading.

concerned about cost

i thought the change to take investments out of the deluxe version was a very bad move and i'm glad you decided to put it back in. i hope you will continue to have the deluxe version include the investment forms next year. it just seems too expensive to go up to the premium version just for that.
What's not so great: change of deluxe version
