Good return preparation; but not as simple as 2013

I have been a faithful user of Turbo tax since the late 1990s. I have to admit I had more difficulty using it than any previous years. Why, I had a difficult time tracking my different versions of my return. I knew the names of each, but getting to the one I wanted was very difficult. Every time I opened up turbotax a different return would pop up than was being used the last time I was in turbo. Ultimately, I had to create my final return from scratch.
What's great about it: easy process to structure the submittal of data
What's not so great: Hard to keep track of different versions of prepared returns

Zippy Tax Filing
on October 15, 2015

Very quick and easy to use, since the software walks you throught the forms as needed. Some areas could use some more detailed explanations: 1) Investment expenses and interest - some of these go on schedule A, some go elsewhere. This should be more explicit on the walk-through as the forms are being filled out. Say something like "Investment account expenses should go on schedule X. Investment publication expenses should go on Schedule Y. Investment interest should go on Schedule Z." 2) Consider the case when a filer is living in one unit of a multi-unit property, and renting out the other unit(s). The filer depreciates the portion of the property that is actually rented - this needs to be spelled out when handling depreciation. I was asked "What is the total purchase price of the asset?". This is misleading. Perhaps say something like "Enter the purchase price of the depreciable portion of the property", and explain the case where the user lives in a multi-unit property, and depreciates the part that is rented out.
What's great about it: Very Quick and Easy to Use
What's not so great: Some tax situations, mostly investment-related, need slightly more detail
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I originally worked on 2014 taxes before and up to 4/15/2015. I updated Turbo tax after a couple months and it automatically came up with a very different tax amt after update with no explanation. Which is right? It should explain the update and why amounts may differ. Also the amount I owe at top of page should keep a running tally of the total tax I owe not the amount minus my estimated pmt from my filed extension. This was very confusing since I never filed an extension before.
What's great about it: free e-filing.
What's not so great: back space button often takes you allthe way back to the begining. auto populate feature can put in the wrong amt.

Problem with other media extension

COULD NOT FIND SOME DEDUCTIBLE INFO BY 4/15. TURBOS TAX EXTENSION OPTION WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN MUCH HIGHER TAXES OWED, SO I USED ANOTHER SERVICE TO E-FILE THE EXTENSION.
FOUND THE MISSING ITEMS, ADDED TO TURBO TAX, AND SAVED A FAIR AMOUNT OF MONEY. ONLY PROBLEM, TURBO HAD NO OPTION TO ASK IF I HAD FILED EXTENSION BY OTHER MEANS OR IF I HAD PAID ANYTHING IN APRIL, WHICH I HAD.
What's great about it: HAVE USED THIS FOR YEARS, USUALLY NO PROBLEMS.
What's not so great: SEE ABOVE
