Some Frustration

.....so had to re-input alllll info! As a 'retired' EA, who used Lacerte professionally, I think TurboTax is an OK program for someone who has a simple return, but having had to amend more than a few returns of audited TT-users, am glad to see you continue to try to make the program more 'amateur' friendly. My suggestion for eliminating my 'goof' would be to ask if TT used prior year, then put in some kind of message or ALERT! to remind user to carry fwd prior info, before proceeding.
What's great about it: generally thorough
What's not so great: tech help not easy to get to after hours- missed rolling last years info fwd.....

My taxes were made more complicated by the fact that I owed taxes in 2 states in 2014. I was having a really hard time figuring out how to avoid getting double taxed on my dividend and interest income. Amita spent hours walking me through what to do. When she ran into roadblocks, she took the time offline to figure out how to fix my issues, then patiently walked me through the correct way to fill out my forms. I am extremely grateful to her and impressed with the level of customer service at TurboTax.
What's great about it: Customer Service

frustrated

Hello,
A couple of things...
I am a US citizen and have lived overseas for 12 years, and other than having to file and pay taxes have very little to do with the US except the odd business trip. My complaints:
1. You dont offer your program(s) for expats without a US address / account, so i have to rely on someone to travel to the US and bring one back, and if it happens to be the wrong version, because thats all that was available in the store, I am unable to upgrade online for the same reasons.
2. You offer very little to zero information / guidance when it comes down to filling out the back-up forms i.e. 1116, FEI excluded amounts etc
3. In conjunction with the above, when asked to fill in amounts in the workpages or descriptions for expenses, it names the workpage, but one has no insight into what item it refers to.
I am of the opinion that your programs in earlier years were "friendlier".... i do understand the taxes situation has becom more complicated rather than simpler, but nonetheless...
What's great about it: you have a program
What's not so great: not overly friendly to operate

Inadequate capabilities

The program cannot handle refunds from bankrupt investments like Lehman Brothers
Trying to find my tax rate for 2015 following filing the 2014 returns your search engine could not provide any relevant hits for the search.

Had excellent help from Heather in Boulder, Colorado. She guided me through each piece (more than once!) to figure out how to get the 2013 tax information back into the system so that I could do the tax return. VERY wonderful!!
Also wasn't sure how to change my email address on the system. I think she ended up doing that for me.
What's great about it: Delay meant I could not file in the normal ONLINE fashion
What's not so great: Challenge getting started because of being late - could not figure out alone how to upload last year's tax info to profi

turbo tax is the best been using the software since it first came out very easy to understand. always get my copy in November! Intuit a good company stays on top of things
What's great about it: when doing step by step and entering your own info EASY
What's not so great: some of the questions after entry get confusing at time

Good old Turbo Tax did it again!

Many companies use ADP and have the W2 online. Turbo Tax needs to work out an agreement with ADP to access this data without all the steps ADP currently requires. Simply enter the SS number and be done with it.
What's great about it: Very easy to use
What's not so great: Import of W2 should be made easier
