2014 TurboTax

Should not be required to buy inflated versions, if I am generally knowledgeable about tax preparation, just because I have investment or self-employment activity.
What's great about it: Saves me from having to carefully read IRS instructions
What's not so great: have to upgrade from Deluxe for no particularly good reason or having too short a first name for nickname :-((
Pros: I bought or sold investments

What's not so great: NONE
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Another Year Of This

Turbo Tax is the only way to do taxes. It knows everything even if you think you know. The ease of filling out the forms can't be matched. Certainly not by hiring a tax professional to do it for you at a much higher cost. Printing this year seemed to be much easier as I've had problems with the printing in the past. Having the security of knowing that Turbo Tax is completely up-to-date with all the latest tax changes lets me sleep well at night.
What's great about it: TT is easy to use, seems to cover everything and I trust it.
What's not so great: I was NOT happy to pay $39.95 for the State return when it was included in my CD last year

Love Turbo Tax but watch out if you may take the state sales tax deduction. Two years in a row, it has not correctly done the sales tax for Suffolk County, New York. I have had to manually go into the locality worksheet and enter the correct percentage. this was major for me as I would have had to take the lower state income tax deduction if I had not done the manual override. 5 stars otherwise.
What's great about it: generally easy
What's not so great: state sales tax error

Easy to use

Purchased deluxe edition like always and could not use since it did not take some of my information. I receive SS and a pension and also dividends and interest and that is all. And when Turbo Tax suggested the deluxe as they always do and that is all I have ever used. With the changes made I had to upgrade to the Premier edition. I felt Turbo Tax did not really notify their customers of these changes well and it delayed me being able to file my returns and having to upgrade. I hope that next year they go back to the old system since for someone like me having to buy the Premier addition is not appropriate. Fixed income and retired and with a reduced income from prior years it seems to much for the amount of income. I do not even own a home. I do like your service and the ease of using Turbo Tax though. Also not having to reenter data each year.
What's great about it: Easy to use, step by step so make sure get everything accounted for
What's not so great: Had to upgrade to premier due to changes made in Turbo Tax

One area where I had problems was I deleted one of my kids in error. I put him back in, but it did not recalculate the Child Tax Credit. I just knew just enough to go into the system to override the form to correct the issue. The forms should be linked better.
What's great about it: Questions were fairly clear.
What's not so great: See below

Turbo Tax is very easy to use and once you have used they will fill in your prior years information and you will only need to make updates on that information if you need to make changes. This year though I had a problem with Turbo Tax. I have always used the Deluxe edition and since I am retired and on a fixed income I was surprised that there were things I could not enter on the deluxe edition and had to upgrade to the Premier addition. For someone like me who has only SS, pension, Interest, and dividends and do not own a home now I was surprised by the changes. I hope they go back to the way it was before, especially for someone like me.

I have used TurboTax for many years and have been generally happy. I seem to recall in previous years, a lot of employer data was automatically transcribed from the previous year. It did not happen this year. It just took more time to retype the data.
What's great about it: Questions easy to understand
What's not so great: Didn't transfer over data from previous year, lot of typing
