2014 Turbo Tax Deluxe

Because it works a bit like a black box, it fills out forms in the background without you knowing, you need to have high confidence that the program correctly puts your taxes together. However with the issues this year about deluxe not have all the needed forms and having to upgrade to Premier one begins to wonder what else is not correct. I begin to feel like I need to do my taxes by hand and compare to be sure. That starts to make Turbo Tax less than helpful. I also found certain tax topics and questions being asked of me not explained clear or explained well.
What's great about it: It got it done, but not smoothly
What's not so great: Instructions not as clear as past years & confusing

I found it very frustrating that as infor was put in it did not
tell me that there was on income there was a 14A that needed filled it. This only showed up in error check.

I had excellent telephone support regarding a fairly odd 1099 situation. Jack S EA was very helpful and knowledgeable.

In general I found this years version an improvement. I use turbo tax to run alternative tax scenarios for next year. for instance We both retired at the end of 2014. Our income and tax picture will vary considerably in the next few years. I wish there was a easier way to do this with the program.
What's great about it: Changes this year made reporting farm rrental income less confusing
What's not so great: many steps are somewhat confusing and I found I needed to switch to forms to besurre info was entered in correct spots--

TurboTax Deluxe worked great, until I needed to determine possible capital gains on a house that I sold. When I was offered an upgrade to the Premiere version, it The premier version would not download to my PC - so I had to purchase it elsewhere,
What's great about it: Intuitive and easy to follow
What's not so great: Because I needed to determine possible capital gains on the sale of the home I sold, I had to purchase the Premier.

Intuit don't omit Schedule D Next Year

I used to use Turbo Tax Basic and it did everything for me - supported Schedules A and D. I heard from internet articles Basic would not do what I needed and reluctantly purchased the Deluxe version. I was shocked to learn that to file a K1 you now expected me to buy the Premier version. I followed the instructions and called a phone number and after waiting over an hour I talked to a very nice support person who said she would give me a code to upgrade for free. Unfortunately her software was not working and she had to call me back. One and a half hours later she did and things went smoothly from there. I will not go through this again next year. If I hear you are trying to force your customers to buy Premier versions I will switch vendors.
