Most anyone can do their own taxes

I've used turbo tax for 10+ years and it makes filing taxes fairly uncomplicated. The step by step reviews and guide lists help one decide what forms need to be filled out and all the calculations are done before you have time to even press "continue." The health insurance area was new and could have had a little more explanation, but the health insurance options are also new, and I'm not certain I always understand all the new plans. I will definitely use turbotax next year.
What's great about it: Step through reviews and guides
What's not so great: Health insurance, HSA was new and a little confusing

Great, simple, and easy! Half the price of professional preparation and less time to complete than it takes to go see the accountant!
What's great about it: Downloaded lots of the information for me and asked simple, easy to understand questions to make sure my return was done
What's not so great: Can't think of anything I didn't like
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Dislike the handling of state within Deluxe and having to buy Premier.
Second, the protection audit seems to be forced upon you at the end.....didn't like that at all.
15year user of TT
What's great about it: ALways good
What's not so great: State not being inculded in deluxe

Only a few nits given the Feb. 5 "Mea Culpa" email

Doing taxes is relatively simple with TurboTax, at least so far for me. Nit 1, the mutual fund companies supply the percentage of dividends that were from Federal interest for any given fund. The preparer has to enter the amount of dividends. Why not also enter the percentage and have TurboTax calculate the dollar amount of Federal interest. I always have to bring up the calculator for this and it's annoying. Nit 2, offering the audit defense product is okay once, but not more than that. Nit 3, when I put a flag on a page, I really want to return to THAT page, not the beginning of the section that contains that page.
What's great about it: Given a product version that covers what you need, it works well.
What's not so great: A few nits, see below.

9 out of 10

Overall, I'd give this software a 9, which is a vast improvement over past software. Most of the questions were clearly stated and gave good examples and references. Only a couple left me lacking: I would have like to have seen the depreciation calculations and I was asked about residential property exemption status in another state with no guidance or reference for which I submitted a query. I'll return to Turbo Tax next year.
What's great about it: 98% of questions were clearly, plainly stated and there were good references.
What's not so great: Only a couple of questions led me astray!
Pros: I moved
