Nathanella's support last ~2.5 hours. She never gave up and said she would get it working while on the call....which she did! I hope all your support representatives are as helpful and nice as she is.
What's great about it: Nathanella's support on my e-filing problems was EXCELLENT! She never gave up

Glitch in Audit Defense
on February 22, 2015

Very frustrated in trying to undo something I do not think I ordered.
What's not so great: want to opt out but that is not an option on the "Thanks for choosing Audit Defense" page.

mutli state frustrations
on February 22, 2015

I used the federal return and downloaded 3 additional states--NJ, NY, Md. I only needed NJ for my own return. However, the other 2 popped into the file and I could not get rid of them.
This was very frustrating and I had to put in a lot of zeros to get the program to ignore the un-needed 2 states.

Another Year in the Books

I like the fact that you stay on top of all the new tax laws. The software is user friendly with the exception of sometimes trying to correct errors on a form you don't need for the current tax year. I discovered going in and deleting the form works but not sure if it is the correct way to do it.
Still having trouble trying to get my AMT credit when it asks for information from Form 6521 which hasn't been used for several years. I have $9600 that I still can't figure out how to collect.
What's great about it: Menu driven through each category to prevent omissions
What's not so great: No good instructions for correcting many of the errors that pop up

Still some confusion on how Turbotax processes the combination of a 529 withdrawal with earnings and the American Opportunity credit. From what I can tell from the IRS publication 970, Turbotax allows double dipping and does not calculate distributed earnings not used for adjusted qualified education expenses.(See example #2 on page 60 of 2014 IRS Publication 970)

I've used TT or over 15 years - this is the first time I've seen it miss something. I use it for my parents' taxes. My Dad passed away in 2013; when I was preparing my Mom's 2014 estimated tax payments, the estimates were based on MFJ deductions and rates and 2 exemptions, but that wasn't true for 2014. (All the necessary information was in my 2013 file!) She went from effective tax rate of 6.79% and 15% bracket (2013) to 12.99% effective tax rate and 25% bracket. It wasn't a financial hardship, just a shock.
(Also, print functions kept crashing TT; I finally figured out that "Open PDF in Preview" and saving from there worked.
[MacMini (2011), Yosemite, TT Premier]
What's great about it: Handles the complicated stuff without a problem
What's not so great: Missed important persoanl change...

Problems and crashes
on February 22, 2015

I have always relied on Turbo Tax in previous years. This is the first year I encountered problems. The program crashed several time for unexplained reasons. I also sold property in another state and the program did not address this issue. I had to go on-line to get Federal worksheets and publications to figure to additions and deductions. I thought I paid for a complete tax program. There was also missing or incomplete MD forms which held up the filing process.
