I've been using turbo tax deluxe for years and it seems like every year there's another disappointment. One year limited the number of federal efiles. This year they neutered the program to try to force upgrades to premium and home and business. I've never understood why saving the State work by efiling should cost me extra. I mail them in, it's cheaper. I like the transfer of info from year to year but i'm thinking about looking for a consistent alternative so I don't have the surprise de jour with each new edition. In the past I thought we could deduct the cost as a tax preparation expense but for the past few years this doesn't seem to be the case.
What's great about it: comparison with prior years, reminder of past deductions, auto transfer of information
What's not so great: 2 upgrades??? pay upfront for upgrades???

What's great about it: Step by step instructions and help windows
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Getting better...

Although it was correct for the Missouri Subtractions, TurboTax did not correctly divide Missouri Additions for Dividends (should have been 50/50), but assigned entire amount to one person); requiring manual override, even though the "income belonged to both of us" box was checked.
Form 1099-R, does not accept OPM supplied value for taxable income; required manual override TurboTax Form 1099-R Simplified Method Worksheet Line 16 to reflect the taxable income shown in box 2a of the OPM 1099R.
What's great about it: Great and easy to use for most things
What's not so great: Still a few minor bugs--see review for details

Another good experience

I'm a TurboTax user of many years. I always appreciate how simple it is to import data from previous years, and carryover certain data, such as capital losses, from previous years. I was not pleased that I had to install a newer OS to use this year's software, but this wasn't a show-stopper. It would be nice if TurboTax could prepare and file the FBAR form.
What's great about it: Seamless import of data from previous year
What's not so great: Disappointed that I had to update my OS to use TurboTax

Its a good program and for the non-savvy person it puts it into layman's terms.
What's great about it: shows every detail
What's not so great: When things change from prior years it is hard to get out of certain schedules that do not apply any more.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

For some reason TurboTax did not automatically take me to the section to estimate my taxes for 2015. It did it for the state, but not the federal. I was able to find it using the search tool, but would have preferred for that to show up on the menu.
What's great about it: Love the menu driven process.
