Very easy

I have used TurboTax for many years. This year seemed the easiest of all. I was surprised when I was finished.
What's great about it: TurboTax walks you through filling out your 1040 with easy questions.
What's not so great: I had some confusion with filling in 1099-DIVS and 1099-B's. Eventually found the way.

What good is an easy form experience when you can't E File? I have used TurboTax for many years and have never had this problem.
Please help me!

TurboTax has become more buggy, less informative

Getting through most of filing my taxes with TurboTax is just a step-by-step mechanical process. However, in my final review, I noticed additional taxes on my 1040 that the program had not explained: the new additional Medicare Tax, and the Net Investment Income Tax. I had to look those up online.
First bugs I encountered were the program retaining worksheets for items it carried over from the previous year, but which I had already said did not apply to this year. I had to manually delete all of the no longer relevant worksheets to clear the errors, because it would not proceed with them empty.
Then, when it came time to file, TurbotTax repeatedly generated script errors, with message such as 'console' is not defined. All of the errors are connected to the TurboTax website at https:/store.turbotax.intuit.com. Those errors reduce confidence that the filing is being one properly.
Finally, TurboTax would not file my CA state tax because I should not have spouse's SSN on the CA information worksheet. I removed it, started the process again, and what happened? TurboTax popped up the CA information worksheet, asking me to enter my spouse's SSN! I ignored that message, started e-filing for the 3rd time, and the process completed.
Completely baffling, confusing, disturbing, and frustrating.
What's great about it: Still beats the old paper filing days.
What's not so great: Numerous bugs & errors. Fails to explain new medicare tax

Raw deal you didn't tell us about

I am disappointed in this program and it has gone downhill in the past couple of years.
Specifically: 1. I had to upgrade my operating system to OS X Yosemite before I could use the program. That would have been nice to know beforehand 2. I was forced to upgrade Turbo Tax to premier to be able to do my schedule D and itemized non cash donations. You hooked us into that - even though it was a free upgrade. 3. Every time I go into the program to continue where I left off, it tells me to click the continue button. When I do that, it wants to start all over with my return. It happened on every time I went back into the program
If you don't make improvements in the program and step up your game, I will not purchase this software again.
What's great about it: Automatic tax program
What's not so great: Didn't tell us about having to upgrade
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Too Expensive
on March 29, 2015

We bought the Amazon Prime version of Deluxe only to find out that it did not include State. State through Intuit cost more than I would have paid for Fed and State combined. E-Filing state also costed a ridiculous amount. Way too expensive over all.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Cost
Pros: I bought or sold investments
