I like to ease of use of Turbo Tax, but will likely investigate other tax packages next year because of the high fee for e-filing my state return.
What's great about it: Easy to use, knows what is needed for my return.
What's not so great: High fee for e-filing state return.

Reciprocity agreements between NJ/PA does not work
on April 27, 2015

Have been using this program for quiet a few years. But last couple of years although it has the same bug/issues.
Work in NJ and live in PA. Although while filing it states it correctly that you don't have to pay NJ taxes and NJ income for those purposes is 0, but it does not let you finish filing till you correct it.
Another bad feature is, it asks you to pay for Efile before you file, which is ok. But in this case once i paid for it, failed to EFile due to the error.
Called customer service and was easily able to get a refund. Good Service.
What's great about it: Easy to import from old year tax, good comprehensive questions
What's not so great: Does not work if you live in PA and work in NJ or vice versa, Efiling error
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Not the best TT year, but still ok
on April 27, 2015

Had to override too often to fix problems with multipile stock sales purchased at different times. Transfers to multiple lots worksheets Parts II, III and IV was inconsistent and sometimes just wrong.
Also, tough to handle when the number of shares got too big and finally figured out that I had to divide by 1,000 and muliply the price 1,000. No room to tell IRS about that, so had to wing it. Also, could you please give an efile option to send some of the worksheets and calculations to the IRS to help explain to them?
I have used TT successfully for many years and really feel it is valuable, but when it gets a little complicated, then users must be wary and extra careful.
Thanks a lot,
What's great about it: step-by-step is better, but still too many silly steps and repetition.
What's not so great: TT made several errors in transferring to multiple lots worksheet and on to Sch. D. Poor execution when no 1099-B's.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Sales under K-1's
on April 29, 2015
Posted by: MLPWoman
No directions on how to relate sales of MLP shares from brokers vs. sales listed on K-1's from MLP companies. This is an ongoing problem every year. Why can't Intuit correct this or give specific directions. It duplicates the entries on Form 8949.
What's great about it: Covers most tax situations
What's not so great: Duplicate entries of MLP sales
Pros: I bought or sold investments
