ok this time

I guess you just have to know what TT can and can't do. If you live in Va. and work in Md. you have to tell TT that you do not work in a different state from the one you live in. Reciprocal states do not require you to pay taxes to both states.
What's great about it: got the job done
What's not so great: reciprocal states
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Truly Useful to a Procrastinator
on April 18, 2015
Posted by: GaryS60
I was planning to hire a professional to do my taxes due to a lot of extra factors in 2014, but procrastinated too long. I went ahead and purchased TurboTax Premier and was able to deal with everything very easily myself in just 2 evenings.
What's great about it: Very clear question and examples; easy to stop and pick up later.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Confusing treatment of option exercises
on April 18, 2015
Posted by: pmmtkisco
The gain on my option exercise was reported in my W-2. Turbo Tax separately calculated the gain effectively double counting the gain. I researched this problem through Turbo Tax help, which was no help at all.
I tried several times to correct the double count manually but each time I tried to correct the double count, Turbo tax over-rode the correction ad re-calculated the gain a 2nd time.
I'm still not sure I've submitted the correct information.
The inability to correctly handle option exercises is a serious flaw in the software.
Separately, I was as unhappy as everyone else over the initial deletion of Schedule D from the DELUXE package.
What's great about it: STEP by STEP process, option to pick what to work on
What's not so great: Totally confusing treatment of option exercises
Pros: I bought or sold investments

NJ military income glitch
on April 18, 2015
Posted by: nikesmom
This product is still unable to correctly process NJ non-resident returns for military personnel. For the amount of money I paid for this product it is very very disappointing.
What's great about it: easy to use, links to many federal & state websites
What's not so great: unable to process state return

Estimated tax??
on April 18, 2015
Posted by: SashaBV
I just realized, 3 days after filing electronically, that there was nothing about filing the voucher for Estimated Tax! No reminder to send payment in! Just the cheerful message that the filing was "Done".
What's great about it: Good that program calculated estimated Tax BUT
What's not so great: Bad if it did not tell me to transfer money for Est. Tax!

Finally, a simple way to do taxes
on April 19, 2015
Posted by: nodlehs
This is the first time I've used TurboTax and I've got to say I'm impressed. I'm not sure even the IRS understands the tax code but I feel a lot more confident having done my taxes this year with TurboTax!
What's great about it: Simple, easy to use, lots of check & balances
What's not so great: I would have liked the ability to print some of the confirmation screens
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
