procrastination-tomorrow is a good day

It doesn't matter when I start doing the taxes each year. I always find something better to do with my time than sitting at the computer for a couple of hours plunking keys to make the U.S. Government happy every year. But, low and behold, TURBOTAX to the rescue to pull me out in a record time each and every year. What a relief... All I need to do is get all the information together at one time and the little people inside my computer ask me the questions and I fill in the blanks. A couple of hours later, CABOOM!!! The fireworks explode and I'm finished with the taxes. What a relief, and sometimes I get a refund back. That's almost as good as a bowl of Ice cream but that's another story all together. Thanks again for the help. Sorry, this is a new computer and I haven't any happy pictures to post at this time, but I'm very happy.
What's great about it: a well guided tour to the finish line
What's not so great: no chain in the box to keep me at the computer
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

8 year customer of Turbo Tax, use premier to handle stock manipulation taxes. First time problem with software when the links to purchase online filing would not work. Was told that CD's this year had poor PD's. Helped on phone at 11:00 PM the 15th by really kind rep. Impressive considering the day they were having! Thanks TT!
What's great about it: excellent coverage
What's not so great: odd errors on CD's
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I would like it if there was an easy way to make the font size bigger. It was easy with this form.btw
What's not so great: Type font was too small and no way to make it bigger. Could not figure out how to show a loss on a stock sale.

Love the program...just want a few more valuation descriptions for charitable donations. I purchased some new books for a classroom and donated them, but the descriptions for these types of charitable donations do not fit. I would like to see a selection "actual cost" since I have my receipts and it was actual cost. Also, I had to list the books as household items - a category for "educational materials" would be nice!
What's great about it: Like the guided tours through topics, and importing data from last year for comparison's sake
What's not so great: Needs more definitions in method of valuation for charitable donations

I used to use the business Turbo Tax program. I no longer have my business and so I used the Premier one and I like it. The transition was generally smooth. Less screens to go through, but also it always took you back to the overall view of the return. I only struggled with a royalties income that I had to work a lot to see where it was suppose to be. Eventually, I got it in the right place. I really like the review. Errors were easy to fix because it took you right to the form and not through many pages of questions again. That is better. I would for sure get this one again in the future.
What's great about it: Ease of getting through the sections, review is better - going right to the section so you don't have to repeat much.
What's not so great: Only one area that was a struggle about royalties.

Entries

In the personal information section it gives you an example of suffixes such as Jr. & Sr. then it flags you and says that entries such as those are unacceptable for e-filing. When it takes you to the place where the error is, there's no way to correct it there. If you give an example, make sure that it won't cause an error. And, if you point out an error, make a way to fix it right there. I was filing my return literally at the last minute and that is the error that came up saying that it not an acceptable entry for e-filing. By the time I figured out where to go to fix the error, I was a minute late filing my taxes. A frustrating bug, but the program is great. Thanks, just needed to vent.
What's not so great: program allows entries that are unacceptable for efiling
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

We moved, changed income levels, and converted a home into a rental. We are very happy with the way TurboTax covered each event. The guided tutorial is a real confidence builder!
What's great about it: the guided tutorial is very effective at helping to cover all tax situations.
What's not so great: It is difficult to easily see what is being input into the actual tax forms.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

I have used Turbo Tax for many years and have not considered any other tax preparation programs given the great experiences I continue to have year after year. Our household income is based on commissions, so our income can vary greatly from year to year. We also have a couple rental properties which add to the complexity of tax preparation. With a family of 5, we seem to have other factors that change from year to year that I never know how they will change our tax situation. I also don't know all the tax law changes from year to year and how they will affect our tax return each year, but I know I can buy Turbo Tax with confidence and that the program will ask all the right questions. I always use the guided option so I am sure to cover everything and not worry that I may have missed something. I like doing my own tax preparation so I can see first hand how decisions that we make during the year affect our tax return and that makes me better prepared to do whatever I can each year that will benefit us when filing our taxes the following year. Needless to say I am a HUGE fan of Turbo Tax and highly recommend it for your tax preparation.
What's great about it: Very easy to go through the guided process
What's not so great: Lack of pop ups explaining unusual circumstances like AMT and when you don't get deductions due to income limitations
