What's great about it: Quick change between forms and step-by-step
What's not so great: Worked on a Mac but crashed a few times...

Fairly painless

Turbo Tax can guide you through entering your data and it knows what to prompt you for. However, often times tax terms aren't really explained fully. Also, when I was prompted to enter the hour for e-filing, I had to guess that the Turbo Tax program meant the hour that is the best time for the IRS to contact us, as there was no explanation other than "form blah needs the hour". Great. But what I do like is their program that lets pros handle the situation when you get audited - and we usually get audited. It's nice to know that all I have to do is upload needed info to a secure server, and someone else is going to handle the IRS for me.
What's great about it: Guides you through all the forms you need to fil
What's not so great: People unfamiliar with tax terms may get confused, prompts incomplete

Hidden Upgrade required

I always used the Deluxe version of TurboTax.
This year they decided to remove Schedule E and make users purchase an upgrade to a more expensive version.
After enough users complained they relented and offered the upgrade for free.
I hope they remember this next year and include tthe "premium" forms in the same version they always had.

Excellent product with a few nits

Excellent product with well designed and very clear interview questions. Excellent online help for any areas that are vague or unusual. Support forum is terrific as other users are cruising waiting to answer questions from other filers.
Would like to see simplified input of multi-line donations to the same charity without having to cycle through the same 4-5 screens for each new donated line item. Had a long list of items given to a non-profit that took quite a while to input.
Would especially like to be able to log donations throughout the year so as to avoid a marathon input session at filing time.
What's great about it: Direct import of W2 and 1099 financial data ROCKS and saves a TON of time!!!
What's not so great: input of multi-line donations to the save charity could be much smoother without recycling through the save 4-5 pages

I make a large number of charitable contributions of small amounts once every year. I am glad that TurboTax imports the long list from the previous year. BUT it goes through a many screens and many clicks for EACH contribution. Instead import even the amounts from the previous year - show it all in a table format and then let the user edit the amounts. What should take 3 minutes takes about 20-25 minutes and is error prone.
What's great about it: - very good product with lots of intuitive navigation
What's not so great: - user interface for entering charitable contributions needs work

I loved using Turbotax this year. I moved, bought and sold a home, and sold some stock, so I considered hiring a CPA. Turbotax was just as good and took me step by step through the process. I am so glad I stuck with Turbotax. It can definitely handle the complicated tax situations very well!
What's great about it: Just as good as using a CPA

It took me forever to file the tax return and find a way to pay the extra surprise fees. bad taste
What's great about it: automatic info transfer when possible
What's not so great: filing is very troublesome
