turbo tax: helpless

The idea of relying on turbo tax users for tax advice is ridiculous. This is no substitute for being able to speak to a turbo tax rep to discuss anomalies in the program. The program does a number of pretty stupid things some of which are obviously wrong.

Disappointed with State Charge for e-filing

I was disappointed to learn that I had to pay a fee to e-file my state return, since I paid to get the state software. There wasn't a charge to file my federal return since I purchased Turbo Tax, and it seems unfair to charge me a fee to file the state return when I paid for the state software to begin with.
What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: Dislike that you charge an add'l. fee to file my state return, since I paid a fee to purchase the state software.

Lots of detail

Been using Turbo Tax for a few years now and it sure seems simple even though we have complicated tax situations. i have not taken full advantage of the features like importing 1099s from banks or used the Quicken options
What's great about it: took me through step by step to be sure I wasnt missing anything
What's not so great: Still not 100% convinced im not missing something

I've been using TT for over a decade. When I hit the submit button, I do it with confidence, never been audited with TT. This year, due to complications, I hired a CPA to review the results of my TT inputs. He made several suggestions, but I found it difficult, sometimes impossible to edit in the suggested changes. I believe this is because the TT product inputs are based on a sort of story line, and the inputs are then automatically transferred to the appropriate forms. If you want to edit the forms themselves, it is not always possible to find the path from which the inputs came. In fact, for the most part, I was unable to make the changes suggested by the CPA. The bottom line cost to me of this was not great, but the return would have been better with the edits. Overall, though, very good.
What's great about it: quick and easy, even with some complicated aspects, e.g. rental property.
What's not so great: Difficult to edit individual forms.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

2015 TurboTax

I have always liked TurboTax over the other guys primarily because the flow of the easyguide from one item to the next is so well thought out and clean looking and at the same time allowing you to jump to other topics if you so desire.
What's great about it: Easy directional flow from subject to subject, clean interface as usual
What's not so great: some of the more complicated tax subjects had very vague explanations

TurboTax messed up when they didn't include all the functions of previous versions in the new version, but the upgrade was easy and free
